The Flaming Lips chosen to curate ATP NY ‘09

There’s not many things better than a Flaming Lips show. You know, Wayne Coyne walking across a packed crowed in a giant bubble, the dancing aliens, the confetti guns; I could go on and on..

There’s not many things better than what the folks at All Tomorrow’s Parties have been cooking up in upstate New York. After all, last year’s kickoff literally left us speechless thanks to a lineup featuring the likes Yo La Tengo, Built to Spill, …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Dinosaur Jr., and the countless others who made their way to Monticello, New York last fall. And that’s even without mentioning 2008 guest curators My Bloody Valentine.

So what do you get when you combine the best of both worlds: The Flaming Lips + ATP New York? Well, ATP New York 2009 of course. That’s right, Wayne Coyne and Co. have been tapped to serve as curators for the second edition of the festival, scheduled to go down between September 11 and 13. While their personal picks are still forthcoming (the four-piece outfit will select 15 artists for Sunday), as we discovered last month, the Lips will be joined by Animal Collective, Atlas Sound, Panda Bear, Anti-Pop Consortium, Dirty Three, and Suicide as well as two other new additions: Autolux and Black Dice.

Still need time to think about picking up a three-day pass? Well, you better hurry. After today’s announcement, these bad boys will likely go flying.

As always, you can stay up-to-date with all ATP confirmations and rumors on our official Outlook page.
