The Stone Roses contemplate reunion
Starting to freak out that you haven’t heard any new reunion rumors in the last week? Fear no more - The Stone Roses have come to the rescue.
That’s right. The legendary British outfit composed of Ian Brown, John Squire, Mani Mounfield, and Reni Wren, who earned the hearts of the music world thanks to two critically acclaimed albums, their 1989 self-titled debut and 1994’s Second Coming, and consequently inspired a whole mess of acts in the alternative rock genre, are talking reunion.
In a recent interview with Channelbee (via NME), Wren shared his hopes for a Stone Roses reunion in 2009 in celebration of the band’s 20th anniversary. “It’s the ideal time to do it. It’s something I would love to do before we are all fat and bald. Start the campaign,” the bassist explained before going on to add, “Me, John [Squire, guitarist] and Reni [drums] are up for doing it and Ian [Brown] just needs some working on.”
Of course, considering his comments to BBC News over the summer in which he declared “The Stone Roses will never reunite,” Ian Brown may need more than some work.
If a reunion does indeed transpire however, it will mark the band’s first live performance in almost 15 years. Reni Wren left the band in March of 1995 followed soon after by John Squire, who went on to form The Seahorses. By late 1996, the band officially disbanded with Mani Mounfield going on to join Primal Screen, while Ian Brown embarked on what has proven to be a successful solo career. All four men reportedly remain in contact and on friendly terms.
