Dave Matthews Band preps new studio album, Spring tour

In a year filled with many highs (a summer tour and headlining appearance at the inaugural Mile High Music Festival) and lows (the untimely death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore), 2008 definitely proved memorable for the Dave Matthews Band. Yet rather than slow things down, the Virginia native and his fellow bandmates will actually be quite busy in the coming months thank to the band’s announcement of a new album and accompanying U.S. tour for 2009.

On April 14th, the Dave Matthews Band will unveil their first studio album in nearly four years and seventh overall. Produced by Rob Cavallo, whose resume includes work with Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and Alanis Morissette, the currently untitled effort will serve as the followup to 2005’s Stand Up and will feature longtime collaborator Tim Reynolds. While additional details remain forthcoming, the album will include recent newcomers Rashawn Ross on trumpet and Jeff Coffin on saxophone, both of whom joined the band during the summer of 2008.

The band will celebrate the release of the album with a performance at New York’s Madison Square Garden before embarking on a month-long North American highlighted by multi-night stints in Las Vegas, Alpharetta, Georgia, and Dave’s hometown of Charlottesville, Virginia along with a headlining performance at the 2009 edition of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. Tickets will go on sale beginning January 17th via Ticketmaster.com.
