Jazz Fest unveils 2009 lineup

It is just me or does the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival consistently have one the year’s best lineup? Since 1970, the Louisiana based music extravaganza has been pleasing ears with an annual showcase that brings the best of music to the Big Easy for two jam-packed weekends of entertainment. Showing no signs of slowing down, Jazz Fest will look to celebrate its 40th anniversary with perhaps its most solid and balanced lineup yet.

Wynton Marsalis, Dave Matthews Band, Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, and Earth Wind & Fire will highlight the 2009 edition of Jazz Fest, scheduled to go down over two weeks (April 24-26 and April 30-May 3) at New Orleans’ Fair Grounds Race Course. Others currently scheduled to perform include Pete Seeger, Ben Harper and the The Relentless7, The Neville Brothers, Wilco, Spoon, Emmylou Harris, Kings of Leon, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, and Drive-By Truckers featuring Booker T. Jones. The complete lineup can be found on the festival’s official website.

I hope my 40th birthday party will be this good…

Tickets, which include for the first time ever, a limited number of discount ticket packages, are now available for purchase via ticketmaster.com. Ticket packages purchased for all three days of the first weekend (April 24, 25 & 26) will be $105, while second weekend packages purchased for all four festival days (April 30, May 1, 2 & 3) will be $140. VIP packages will also be available.

As always, be sure to check our Jazzfest Outlook page for all the latest confirmations and rumors.
