Phish, Springsteen for Bonnaroo, Britney & others for Coachella?
There’s nothing like kicking off your morning with some rousing festival rumors, especially ones this big. Buckle up because this is going to be a wild ride!
According to an article appearing today on Rolling Stone’s Rock Daily , citing “reliable sources,” the recently reunited Phish and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band will top the bill for the 2009 edition of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Trey & Co., who will officially reunite during a three-night stint in Hampton, Virginia in early March, will headline two nights, Friday and Saturday, while Bruce and his fellow Super Bowl halftime performing bandmates will close out the festival on Sunday.
The article also went on to offer a few tidbits concerning another high-profile music festival: Blur, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, The Pretenders, We Are Scientists, Keane, and…Britney Spears are among the names hotly rumored for Coachella 2009. Scratching your head over the latter one? RS points to Brit’s gap in touring during the Coachella weekend (April 17-19) and Madonna’s 2006 dance tent performance as the basis behind the rumor.
Of course, we do stress nothing is official, though a few of these rumors have been on our FestivalOutlook.com for some time now. As always, we’ll keep you updated.

I’ve never been a fan of the “jam band” scene. Still, I’m about as open to music as anyone you’ll ever meet. I decided to hit up a Phish show senior year of college (back in ‘01) with some friends to see if it was worth all the hype. I’m just not into it.
Last year, the ‘Roo schedule whooped my ass. If Phish play, I promise you, they will headline (unless Kanye shows up) and I will take that opportunity to catch up on my needed rest.
With that said, I think you all should at least give Phish a chance, I know I will. I’m not a fan of there’s but the fact that I’ve never heard a single non-glowing review of their live show has got me at least thinking about it. I highly doubt I won’t find it interesting, even if I don’t watch the whole thing. I would least give their first two songs a shot… and if it’s sleepy as you all predict it is, well, I stand corrected!
Then again if their late nights are as epic as they were last year, I will definitely at least take napping into consideration… one of my big regrets for last year was how exhausted I was for MMJ and Sigur Ros. We’ll see.
I think you guys are sensationalizing the article a bit much. They didn’t say they were headlining, it was just pure speculation based on RS’s insider connections. You act like they are literally announcing the headliners for Bonnaroo this year: “According to the article, [they] WILL top the bill.” If you actually open the article, it’s just them speculating on rumors like we all do… nothing to get hyped about.
im in for the nap too…nothing freaks me out more than a massive crowd of phish phans
hey phish at bonnaroo? i’m shocked…. they better not set foot on grant park or i’ll throw a fit.
Springsteen is enough to bring me to the farm this year. But I’m with you guys, I’ll sleep during Phish…
Ha! I’ll be joining you guys this year for the nap! Maybe we’ll get a trailer, so we can actually get some quiet time…or not.
Cool. Phish at Bonnaroo. My girlfriend will be happy and I will get some extended time for naps on Friday and Saturday before the latenights.
