Check Out: Hot Chip, Peter Gabriel cover Vampire Weekend

What happens when the creators behind our seventh favorite album of 2008 tackle a selection from our second favorite? And then add a music legend into the mix?

Well, that’s exactly what happened when Hot Chip, with some help from Peter Gabriel, recently took a crack at Vampire Weekend’s “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa”. As the story goes, per The Guardian, the former Genesis frontman expressed interest in covering the VW classic earlier this summer. The fellows of Hot Chip eventually got word and since they are all about covers these days, decided to team up with Gabriel for a rendition of the track.

The finished product? Let’s just say it was worth the hype. Available on Abeano Music, this particular cover of “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” feels like something that would perfectly complement a day at the beach - a pleasant, almost subdued Caribbean influenced number that still offers a bit of that electrifying punch we’ve come to expect from Hot Chip. Now if only I could get a Pina Colada, and then we’d be rocking…

Gosh, why does it have to be December?

By the way, while we’re on the subject of Vampire Weekend, now’s probably a good time to mention that the New York natives recently revealed to WNEW that they’ll soon be heading into the studio to begin work on the follow up to their debut album.
