Kevin Barnes doesn’t like breaks

A question for Mr. Kevin Barnes, the genius behind Of Montreal: do you ever sleep? I mean based on your recent interview with Rolling Stone, it doesn’t look like it.

During some downtime from his currently ongoing worldwide tour, the Of Montreal frontman shared his New Years resolutions with the music outlet. Among them? Oh, just a couple new albums, more touring, and a DVD release..

Yes, Barnes has already begun work on the recently released Skeletal Lamping, “I’m slowly putting together some new stuff for the next record, like whenever I have a free moment.” While details remain sketchy, the Ohio native does have an idea as to its direction: “It’s sort of abstract in my mind, but right now what I’ll create will be mesmeric and kind of physical music. Try to create music that you have a physical reaction to. Try to touch you on a level that’s not strictly intellectual but more physical, and that’s not to say you’ll dance to it.” As always, rather than try to decipher what all this really means, we’ll just wait for the finished product before jumping to any conclusions.

But a new Of Montreal album isn’t the only new release on the agenda. As we learned earlier this year, Barnes has been collaborating with MGMT’s Andrew Van Wyngarden for a new side-project, entitled Blikk Fang. In 2009, the duo hopes to unveil what Barnes describes as “sort of a soulful prog,” meaning, “it’s probably gonna be a pretty schizophrenic, crazy album.”

That not enough for you? Good because it isn’t for Barnes either. To top it all of, Of Montreal will also use next year to unleash a live DVD featuring footage from the Hissing Fauna tour.

And my head is officially spinning. On to the tour dates…
