Van Morrison signs with EMI, celebrates with live album

Turns out Van Morrison’s recent performances in Los Angeles were only the beginning in the legendary singer/songwriter’s celebration of his 1968 classic, Astral Weeks. As we learned this week, Morrison will take the live recordings from his two-night performance at the Hollywood Bowl this past November to EMI, where he will release them as part of a brand new live album in 2009.

“I brought these records to EMI because they seem to have people with vision, who have ‘ears’ and who understand the significance of the complex arrangements and the classic essence of recordings like ‘Astral Weeks…They’re committed to maintaining the integrity of the records I make.  That is what it’s all about to me.”

While additional details are still forthcoming, based on the concerts the recording will likely center around Morrison’s live recreation of the legendary album - each of the two night was composed of a two-part set with the first half centered on hits before Morrison made his way through Astral Weeks in its entirety following a short intermission.

The album, rumored to be titled Astral Weeks Live at the Hollywood Bowl, will be officially released through Listen to the Lion Records, Morrison’s person imprint, in association with EMI.
