Prince previews new album

Prince previews new album

Until now, we haven’t had much news on the Prince front since all those rich guys were talking on their cellphones on that roof. But now it seems like the artist formerly known as the artist formerly known as Prince has something to share with the world. According to Spin, this past Thursday, the man in purple invited LA’s Indie 103 to his home to provide them with what was essentially a sneak peak of his new album, the followup to 2007’s Planet Earth.

And get this, after the listening session, Prince, you know, the same artist who is all about copyright violations and suing, granted the the station permission to play four selections off the currently untitled album on the air. How very gracious!

The album is said to be very rock oriented and guitar heavy, with quite personal lyrics about love and the recording industry. The songs “Colonized Mind” (”Did you know your record deal was another way for ‘The Man’ to steal?”), “Wall of Berlin”, “4Ever”, and a cover of Tommy James and the Shondells’ “Crimson and Clover” were the tunes sported over the radio yesterday afternoon on Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones’ “Jonesy’s Jukebox”.

Additionally, a much funkier track, “There Will B Another 1 Like Me”, surfaced yesterday via mplsound.com. The mysterious website, which is simply a stream of the 6 minute track, could very well be one of Prince’s own creations (MPLS being an abbreviation Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis). Perhaps further tracks will debut there, keep your eyes peeled!
