Warped Tour unveils anniversary lineup

Believe it or not, but when the Vans Warped Tour kicks off this summer to bring its annual mix of punk/emo-heavy styles and sounds to music hungry adolescents around the country, the traveling music festival will be celebrating its 15th anniversary. And though a whole new generation of festival goers may be attending next year’s edition, the Warped Tour will look to celebrate with a lineup featuring many old favorites.

NOFX, Less Than Jake, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, and the Bouncing Souls are among the Warped veterans highlighting the 2009 lineup, while The Ataris, Thrice, Underoath, Saosin, Anti-Flag, and Streetlight Manifesto round out the other notable acts currently set to appear. The festival promises more lineup additions, including a few “special guests” in the coming weeks and months.

However, unlike the setup in year’s past, the 2009 edition of Warped Tour will feature only one main stage, a change founder Kevin Lyman explains is a result of both the lineup and the current state of the economy:

We went to one main stage for a couple reasons:

1) Many of these bands have been around for a long time and have many songs to choose from, so this year instead of limiting them to 5 or 6 songs they will have 40 minutes to play all your favorite songs from the past and a couple new ones too.

2) I know times are tough so it was important to me to figure out how to keep the ticket price low this year - this way we can accomplish that AND still put on.

As to where and when you’ll be able to check out next year’s lineup and news setup? While many specifics (ie., venues) are still forthcoming, Warped Tour has already announced the dates and cities currently on tap, which you can check out below.
