The Black Crowes talk, perform new album

Turns out that even after the release of Warpaint and the subsequent nonstop touring, which consisted of some 138 shows over the course of 10 months, The Black Crowes are far from done. In fact, as the Georgia rockers recently alluded to in an interview with Billboard, the new year could prove even busier.

According to guitarist Rich Robinson, the band has “tons of songs around” and is currently trying to “to figure out what to do with them.” One idea?

“We want to make another record” with the Crowes, the younger Robinson tells Billboard.com, which likely means a 2009 follow-up to this year’s “Warpaint.”

“We still want to do this,” Robinson says. “Having all this sort of new enthusiasm and this newfound sense of identity as a band, I think we want to put it to good use and make another great record and really do some different and interesting things.”

Two albums in two years? Pretty impressive ambitions for a band that took almost seven years to deliver Warpaint, the followup to 2001’s Lions

But the Crowes will apparently go for it and will do so in a live setting, as revealed in their recently announced tour plans. Over two weekends in February, the band will perform four concerts which, according to the band’s official website, will be recorded for “all Amoricans (sic) and cosmic cuties who wish to attend,” or as Hidden Track explains, to serve as the basis for their new album:

The jam-rock sextet have invited their fans to Levon Helm’s Barn in Woodstock, NY on February 21, 22, 28 and March 1 to watch them perform a batch of new material that will be recorded live for their next album over the course of the four evenings.

The shows are being billed as “Cabin Fever Winter 2009″, and of the four, three nights are already sold out.

The Black Crowes 2009 Tour Dates:
02/21 - Woodstock, NY @ Levon Helm’s Barn
02/22 - Woodstock, NY @ Levon Helm’s Barn
02/28 - Woodstock, NY @ Levon Helm’s Barn
03/01 - Woodstock, NY @ Levon Helm’s Barn
