Madness readies new studio album

It only took 10 years, but on March 2nd, legendary British skasters Madness will unveil its long-awaited ninth studio album to the world. Entitled The Liberty of Norton Folgate, the 12-track effort will not only mark the band’s first new studio album since 1999’s Wonderful, but will also coincide with their 30th anniversary when it is released next spring.

As we learned earlier this summer thanks to the band’s June showcases in London, the album takes its name from an area of London known for its creativity and cultural diversity and appears to be heavy in both the band’s usual single quality material and a few surprises, such as the 10 minute title track which Marco on the Bass deemed a “stunning opus, classic Rise And Fall era Madness.”

Ahead of the release, which is the product of nearly three years of work and features the production talents of Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, both of whom worked with the band on Wonderful, Madness recently offered another early taste with the release of the album’s first single, “NW5″. What’s more, for fans willing to shell out a few early bucks now, the band is offering a free digital download of The Liberty of Norton Folgate in its entirety for those who pre-order the deluxe edition of the album.

However, the new album won’t be the only way Madness will be celebrating its aforementioned anniversary. Next summer, July 17th to be exact, the band will look to reincarnate its Madstock Festival in London’s Victoria Park. While additional details are still forthcoming, The Specials, who recently reunited themselves, are among the acts rumored to be playing.
