Vedder, Grohl, Ledger to honor Nick Drake

Vedder, Grohl, Ledger to honor Nick Drake

Way back in February of last year, we posted news of Heath Ledger’s involvement in the creation of a video for Nick Drake’s Black Eyed Dog”. However, given the unfortunate and untimely death of Ledger just one month earlier, the irony surrounding to the project seemed to garner more attention than the video itself. This may in fact change however, when Ledger’s video, along with a number of other high-profile collaborations, are released as part of a new Nick Drake tribute album later this year.

According to David Schulhof, whose company, EverGreen Copyrights, controls Drake’s material, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl, Norah Jones, and Jack Johnson are among the names confirmed to take part in what will be a tribute CD/DVD that seeks to pay homage to the widely acclaimed singer/songwriter, who died of a drug overdose in 1974. While many specifics are still forthcoming coming, the DVD component will also feature a full version of Ledger’s “Black Eyed Dog” video.

Per Schulhof via Billboard:

“Fans are willing to pay for that kind of product,” he said. “I don’t think labels are doing that and I certainly don’t think publishers are doing that.”

  1. I love me some Nick Drake.

    Interesting Nick Drake tribute factoid:

“Life in a Northern Town”, from The Dream Academy’s 1985 self titled debut, is a tribute to Nick Drake.

    That entire album is amazing.

  2. if all those names are included in the final product it will certainly be something worth waiting for
