Update: Coachella 2009: Open Thread; Lineup Tomorrow!
(1/29) 9:00 p.m. Update: According to the always reliable KROQ Twitter, Coachella will officially unveil its 2009 lineup tomorrow on the Kevin & Bean morning show. And get this, the whole thing is “confirmed by Goldenvoice.” That’s a welcome relief.
Here’s to another sleepless night. Of course, if we get any early leak, we’ll post it immediately.

By this time tomorrow, the lineup for the Coachella 2009 will have been offered, devoured, and digested. With an announcement imminent, we figured now would be a good time to open things up to you, the reader. What do you mean Twitter hasnt been reliable? KROQ’s twitter was the first source to say the lineup announcement was being postponed. Its been th most reliable thing thus far.
I’m through getting excited until I actually see the lineup. There isn’t even anything on the kroq website about it. Twitter hasn’t been all that reliable so far.

COACHELLA CANCELLED
How about some Blitzen Trapper? Anyone feeling them for some late afternoon fun? perhaps with a sun setting and some great people?
Hasn’t Goldenvoice ever heard of having artist additions or posting “more to be announced” at the end of the initial lineup? I don’t understand why they just didn’t put out a list of who is already confirmed. People know if they are going or not, they just need something to relate to and get excited about. This goes to show how crucial it is to the organizers about having HEADLINERS to put on the initial list and release to the masses. The other 80-100 bands are just space fillers to them. All that would have happened is that half the people would bitch and moan and the other half would have been thanking the festival gods for Coachella. That would have happened for the first week then the speculation as to who the artist additions would be would start and all would be well and forgotten. Now they have little choice but to wait until after Bonnaroo announces their lineup because you certainly don’t want your lineup buzz to get lost in the weekend or of the excitement with who is playing Bonnaroo. So Feb 9th does make sense. Goldenvoice should be smarter than this.

I already have my plane tix, so trust me, I’m still going. I’ve always been a fan of the fact that they do such a good job bringing in the European bands that aren’t big in the US as well as continuously having an amazing undercard across the board. Bonaroo is a much better festival if you’re really into the headliners or mainly just American bands. From a logistical standpoint, Coachella does a great job getting people in and out, selling water for a reasonable price, having a zillion bathrooms, and having enough food stands that the lines are never really that bad.
That doesn’t mean that I can’t be frustrated with this new attitude that GV is showing. Basically the “we’ll put out the lineup when we’re damn well ready and how dare you even question us” vibe that I’m getting from them. As I’ve repeated over and over, if the lineup is taking longer this year it’s really not a big deal. Just a simple acknowlegement of that fact as well as status update - not the day and the hour it will come out, but something like “it looks like it will take until next week” If something happens again and that date won’t work, put out a second announcement. I don’t know why it’s such a big deal. One small leak in the LA Times doesn’t count. You have a freaking website - use it to communicate to your patrons every once in awhile. I dont’ feel like I should have to go to Coachella.com once an hour for day after day hoping that the lineup magically shows up. It gets discouraging after awhile. In general, I shouldn’t have to keep checking latimes.com, ocregister.com, and freaking kroq.com to try to find news. That’s what Coachella.com is supposed to be for.
To make a long story longer, I’m still going to Coachella this year. However, next year I’ll think a whole lot harder before deciding to plump down the $1000 I spend getting out there. GV needs to realize that we have options and people just don’t like to be jerked around like we have been this week.
OK, honestly… Why are you basing whether you are coming to Coachella on the lineup? I’ve been to every one of them and it ALWAYS is an amazing weekend. Last year was no exception. Everybody was down on the lineup when it came out and it turned out to be the best of the entire run. Not just because of the music, but also because GV has perfected the festival. The atmosphere just gets better and better. Never a wait for bathrooms, no lines for beer, amazing artwork, the spotlights… Oh the spotlights!! They were just amazing!!! Plus you end up seeing bands you haven’t heard of that blow you away!! The music last year was great as well, the Verve, The Raconteurs, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Stephen Malkmus, Portishead followed by Prince!! MMJ and Roger Waters were unreal!! Moral of the story, JUST GO!! Don’t worry about the lineup, it’s th best weekend of the year hands down!!
Let’s just call it INSIGHT for those of you who obviously have none…have you ever been to Coachella? It’s not the cheapest trip if you aren’t from Cali.

I am confused as to why everyone got so excited for the lineup release if GV didn’t release a firm date for the announcement. In either case, it’s a bit frustrating trying to plan around not knowing who will be playing….. I am sure the acts will be phenominal, I just want to get this locked down and start planning!

So we went from the lineup being announced this Tuesday on KROQ to maybe February 9th. Damn.
I think last year that’s what happened, and a lot of people got pissed because there were add/drops all over the place. So they’re probably trying to avoid that, and get it done first try. If that’s the case, I respect that. I think people are really starting to lose their minds though, haha. As long as they don’t invite Lil’ Wayne I’ll be happy.
they will lose a lot potential attendees after all these ridiculous delays and lack of information. maybe not with regular attenders but with casual fans or people that consider coachella just one option of many.
why no deadline? if the lineup aint complete by the announced deadline date, put it up anyway and put whatever is taking so long when it’s ready, if it even happens.

Update; NIN is confirmed and so is Janes Addiction. They’re on tour together this summer… yes, together. Dave Grohl is playing with Sir Paul at the Grammy’s and Coachella. No Doubt is not playing Coachella, they will sell out their own dates (3) in the late summer in the OC (same venue).

Tell me about it, I live in OH and I have the money and I wanted to go but waiting so long to book flights/deciding b/t hotel and camping etc. I almost guarantee I don’t go. I’m not complaining but if they would have released it a few weeks ago I would have bought two tickets/camping/etc. but now it’s almost too little too late. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who decided that, I have no issues just think it would make sense to at least release everything they can, I’m sure it will be okay but I need to know it will be really good to fork over that kind of money.
Now if it drops and has White Stripes, NIN, Outkast, along with NY, Chems, and all those other rumors I may figure out a way…just saying…

I am not going to coachella way to far from michigan and I need to save money for langerado. lolla and maybe rothbury, but If I was someone who was undecided about going waiting for the lineup I would be so pissed. Kudos to whoever put this one together. Reasonably believable and only a couple issues. Nice catch on the Hold Steady being on there twice. I think the Shins would be a little higher on the Sunday lineup as well.
Unfortunately, all these fake lineups are just going to add to the disappointment when the real lineup comes out as there is no way that something this good could be true.
I really do hope that is the real lineup… if it is I may cream my pants… even something close to that would be beyond amazinggggggggggggg

No shit sherlocke people are impatient. It happens when an expected announcement happens later rather than sooner or at the same time as the previous two years. And on top of that, the event itself is a week earlier. But than the worst part is the how Coachella heads pay K-ROQ to promote their festival and lets them be the ones to reveal the lineup, and then the promo lackeys tell teh world the lineup is delayed, then openly deny it, then admit the next morning they knew last night when they were denying it on twitter.
Way to be condescending and insulting to your customers instead of apologizing for K-roq intentionally misleading us. Even a McDonalds manager will apologize if one of their lackeys was caught spitting in your food.

This might be a long shot, but I posted a comment on the Coachella myspace board asking whether it was too late to add Joaquin Phoenix (He’s apparently starting a rap career). I was only half serious, but they didn’t even allow my post to make it on the board……….. fishy? I think maybe he might use Coachella as a platform for his Casey Affleck produced rap-documentary…….. I could be totally wrong, but I just thought it might interest people.

Hate to break it to you, but listening to music and posting on a message board are two very different things. Also hate to break this to you, but festivals are put together by big corporations, and they really don’t care about complaints on boards - they will deliver the line-up once they are ready to do so.

This whole Coachella line-up mass-anxiety attack is by far the funniest thing I have ever seen on the Internet. People are acting like they are owed this line-up. People on message boards need to relax and get a grip on reality.
they just said on KROQ that it will still be announced tomorrow morning. I think I speak for everyone when I say the sooner the better!

I’ll tell you, I’ve been following the mood on the message boards all day and it has changed from a nervous excitement, to outright frustration, to downright concern. This isn’t really reporting, but there are now a lot of threads asking the very legitimate question “Do they not have any headliners to announce?” A couple days ago the same people were assuming that the delay meant that something really big must be coming. I’m not going to demand things like some of the idiots out there, but I think GV needs to come forward and say SOMETHING. At least acknowledge that the lineup is late this year and their best guess as to when it will be ready. Everything just seems really unorganized this year and I must admit it concerns me somewhat.
