Super Furry Animals ready “super” new release…
Gruff Rhys is a mad man. No, he’s a raving lunatic! He has to be if he can continue to deliver to his fans again and again. After his work last year with Neon Neon, on the glossy yet dazzling ’80’s escape, Stainless Style, one would think he’d be a bit dry, creatively speaking. They’d be wrong, however, as the Welsh vocalist is running at full steam, and this time around he’s thrilling us with his experimental-power pop band, Super Furry Animals.
On what will be their ninth studio album, Super Furry Animals (or SFA) are keeping things fast, focused and fun, at least that’s what the band’s promising. On their website, they posted the following:
“Musically it’s based around riffs and grooves we’ve been playing around with over the last few years. We have enough now for a whole album so even though it’s still very melodic we thought we could leave off the acoustic ballads for the time being.”
“It’s recognisable as a melodic SFA record, but is very focused musically as a cohesive album. And no country rock as Daf has developed a pedal steel phobia. Which has confined the great
Nashvillian instrument along with the Saxophone to the banned instrument directive of the SFA board. there’s only one slow number which isn’t slow at all.”
The yet-to-be-titled release (track listing after the jump) will find its way into your mp3 players come March 16th, but for the naturalists who prefer a physical copy, you’ll have to wait until April 13th if you purchase through Rough Trade Records, or April 21st if you don’t want to break that allegiance to your record store. To be honest, considering Pete Fowler and “legendary Japanese artist” Tanaami are presently working hard on the album artwork, a physical copy might be in your best interests.
Either way you go, keep a close look on SFA, as they assure some surprises are on the way(hey, that rhymes!). And with Rhys at the wheel, who knows what sort of hi jinx they’ll come up with.
