Bonnaroo 2009: Open Thread; Lineup announcement tonight!
4:15 p.m. Update: According to several media outlets, including The Tennessean, Bonnaroo will officially unveil its 2009 lineup at 12:00 a.m. EST tonight! As always, we’ll post it as soon as we get it.
Also, we can officially confirm, via independent sources, that Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band and Phish are among the headliners for this year’s Bonnaroo.

Feel free to use this post to share your hopes, dreams, predictions, and any news you’ve found.

Suspect is elderly man believed to have link to white supremacist groups

A security guard was shot to death after an elderly man said to have ties to white supremacist groups walked into the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday and opened fire, officials say.
The man shot the guard with a rifle as soon as he entered the building at 12:52 p.m. ET, said Cathy Lanier, the chief of D.C.’s city police. The guard was taken to George Washington University Hospital, where he later died.
Does anyone know if sts9 will be there? Ive checked the line up multiple times but ive been hearing rumors about them and Thievery…

pretty sick
already leaked.
it’s not real, it doesn’t have B-Springsteen on it, and as was said earlier in this thread, Kings of Leon will be in the UK the day after Bonnaroo, so they are very doubtful unfortunately.
If that is real (which it can’t be… can it?) It would just take a shit on coachella
if that was real I’d be there for sure.
meh… very fake, but sure, interesting I guess, I think many bands are way too far down for it to be remotely real including Matisyahu, Jamiroquai, and many others.

Interesting?
Saw this on the Bonnaroo forums.. I’m not saying this is legit but… it’s interesting?
no such luck with Kings…. will be interesting to see who they pull in on that spot….
TV on the Radio is not big enough to close that stage out on Sunday. Maybe Band of Horses, or Yeah Yeah Yeahs…
yeah kol is huge in europe, they actually seem kind of mad about that to so don’t count on them being here.
Well, I think I might have to retract my statement about KOL playing closing the Which Stage Sunday evening. They’ve got a show the next day in London, at the freaking O2 Area… ugghhh I dunno. Seems like a stretch to do both to say the least. Still hoping though… as long as they show up in any way shape or form.
the tennessean is suggesting that jay-z will be playing this year. guess we will find out at midnight
I agree with both commenters who said Kings of Leon make sense to close out the Which Stage on Sunday. I also would love it. I’m really hoping they’re on the farm this year, I know they get a lot of backlash around these internetz parts, but I would just kill to see them out in Tennessee… that’s where their music belongs.
Seeing as most people said they more-or-less “bombed” on the What Stage in 2007, I think it makes sense they play the Which this time around, the What was just too big for them. They’re certainly big enough to close out the Which the way the Stripes and Death Cab (maybe slightly less big, but in the same territory). And they have plenty of fans in the Roo-going demographic. I think it’s pretty much perfect. I hope Superfly agrees with me.
Also, the idea of KOL playing the White Stripes/DCFC slot makes a LOT of sense to me.
Midnight shall answer all of our questions..Roo shall not disappoint this year
If Beasties and NIN round out the top 4, then I would lean heavily towards NIN getting a late-night set and possibly playing an instrumental-heavy set. Seems like a good setting for Trent to try something new like he’s been talking about for years. I’m not sure if I see Beasties doing a late night set when they could be the Friday headliners.
yeah i can see the dead doing rothbury this year. and i could see les claypool playing since he is touring, but probably not primus
if Nine Inch Nails plays, I will be buying my ticket and making the 8 hour drive from Illinois.
love the phish confrimation,
but were did you hear it?
i saw on the bonnaroo website some guy said
someone he knew told him…
We can stick Merle Haggard on to the confirmed list:
http://www.livedaily.com/news/15597.html
you know what, Reznor’s light show as a late night performance could be pretty killer too
Cody, it is not so much that the lineup is going to be better, though it will be, but the fact that the music doesn’t stop. Bonnaroo is a 4 day non stop party. This is why I always choose Roo’ over Coach.
bonnaroo is only drama free when someone shows up on time at 2 in the morning
ahhh i’m prob going to end up going to the ‘roo
but idk why everyone thinks the roo lineup will “destroy” the coachella lineup?
i mean there’s paul M, MBV!!!, the cure etc
please ‘roo fans, explain to me
Yeah, Bonnaroo will be Dead free this year.
Bruce, Phish, NIN & Beastie (not sure which of the last two would be the headliner though)
If the rumored artists are all there, this could be the best bonnaroo ever.
I really dont think The Dead are going to be there, Phish Bruce and NIN are three really good headliners IMO plus beastie boys for a latenight, Roo doesnt really need another huge act. I see The Dead going to Rothbury myself. I really hope David Byrne and STS9 make it on the lineup
primus has not been talked about but,
les loves the roo.
so you cant count it out.
hopefully!
My final predictions for headliners:
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
Phish
Beastie Boys
Nine Inch Nails
The Dead
is Primus rumored someplace? This is the first I’ve heard of them being attached to Bonnaroo…would love to see it happen.
All I know is that Bonnaroo’s line up is going to shit all over the coachella line up. Last years was such an awesome line up. If the headliners are Phish, Dave Matthews Band, The Boss and the Beastie Boys. I will buy tickets in an instant. Very much worth the trip from California.
I will take a Bonnaroo with the Beasties/nin/Primus. i don’t care when they play. Those 3 on the same lineup would be amazing. If not Primus, then maybe some C2B3 to do a one off gig
i could see kings of leon taking that spot since they arent playing coachella.
if arcade fire was there…. i would have to be there no doubt.
expect NIN to fill the Metallica/Tool spot
Beasties will probably play a late night
and expect some big indie band to close out the 2nd stage on Sunday ala Raconteurs/Death Cab for Cutie (maybe Kings of Leon here?)
Why is Yeasayer rumored? The link takes me to their myspace which says nothing of the Bon
Grizzly Bear!!!!!!!!!!!!
:D!!!
i like the idea of phish headlining friday and then a delayed set saturday.
and the dead on sunday.
sts9(latenight)
primus(latenight)
keller williams
medeski, martin and wood
the flaming lips(saturday headliner)
cypress hill
slightly stoopid
RjD2(lateight)
goerge clinton
dj shadow(latenight)
allman brothers
umphreys mcgee
disco biscuits
derek trucks
public enemy
aesop rock
matisyahu
the wailers
girltalk(latenight)
ben folds
mos def(latenight)
just to name a few..
Well, If Phish holds true, then my dreams will pretty much come true…I cant see how or why The Dead won’t make an appearance, but if they do, and add in The Arcade Fire and i guess that could make for my Ulitmate Bonnaroo…and ive been every year! thats saying alot for only three bands, so other hopefuls would include MMJ, Broken Social Scene, Ween, Steve Malkmus…ok im getting too antsy, must stop.
if animal collective did a late night set i would die
yeah im ready to see this lineup and see Roo redeem themselves from last year’s headliners…but whats up with the tickets? are the sold out already or what?
I’m thinking it’s going to be Nine Inch Nails, Bruce, and Phish headlining, with a Beasties late night
I’m thinking Animal Collective should be “practically confirmed” with their dates ending on Wednesday in Florida, and them never playing Roo before, particularly with the explosion of pupularity they’ve achieved in the last month. In other words, I will be SHOCKED not see them on the lineup. They may not be confirmed, but, practically.
Also, them being added to Bonnaroo’s myspace friends only helps that opinion.
Eh, I’m pretty sure Phish will play a headlining spot Nick. Don’t get me wrong - late night set with Phish would be awesome but it is pretty much certain that Phish will headline a night, not just a late night.
i can see the headliners being bruce, beasties, then another, with phish and the dead doing late night sets. i think everyone would like phish and the dead to do late hour sets over headlining. if it comes to it, i can see the dead headlining, but phish is definitely a late night set.
I think the real question is, whether or not the Beastie Boys are a late night act or the third headliner? I would like for there to be a surprise third headliner that no one knows about yet. What do you guys think?
longest two days of my life!
phish and the dead would be insane!
im thinking bonnaroo gets animal collective. their tour dates stop at the 10th, and they dont go anywhere near the tennessee area.
Bruce and Beasties would be a dream festival for me. Anything after that would just be gravy…
Though, the inclusion of The National would be nice.
So, I’m just gonna go out on a limb and say, I highly doubt there will be as many comments in this “thread” as the Coachella threads. One thing about Bonnaroo = drama free!
Beastie should be moved to practically confirmed. Bonnaroo Detective tells no lies…
“Practically confirmed”? Hmmmm. Sounds good to me.
