The jacket is back! Coldplay shells out summer tour dates

The jacket is back! Coldplay shells out summer tour dates

Just days before Chris Martin and Co. are set to be profiled by Steve Kroft on 60 Minutes (see below) and hit the stage with the slew of other musical heavy-hitters in celebration of The Grammys, the English outfit, perhaps best known to you and me as Coldplay, has rolled out dates for a summer U.S. tour.

Following stops in Japan, Australia, and Europe, Coldplay will return to the U.S. for what is currently a month-long endeavor beginning July 10th in Portland, Oregon. Of course, as any festival goer will tell you, the most attention grabbing part of the current itinerary is the plans around August 7-9, or the weekend that will be Lollapallooza 2009, which as of now, don’t give much credence to the current rumors that the band will be headlining the festival this year. But then again, one date (August 8th) is open, so you never know.

Additional dates will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets for the ones below will go on sale beginning Friday, February 13th via Ticketmaster.com.

Before heading out on tour, Coldplay will be splitting its time working on the followup to last year’s Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, performing at The Grammys, and dealing with a recent lawsuit served by musician Joe Satriani over plagiarism charges.

Suffice to say, the jacket won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

  1. They just announced Canadian dates in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Calgary. The weird thing for me is that they’re coming 3 days before the weekend that VirginFest was in Calgary last year. I don’t know about you but they would have been a perfect fit. Seems like there might not even be a fest in Calgary this year. May be on a different date?

  2. Fucken yes! They will not be at Lolla!!!

  3. They do have an LA date. Carson, CA is 10 minutes North off Long Beach on the 405. It’s the soccer field the Galaxy use as well as at Cal State Dominiquez Hills. Thats the LA date.

  4. Adding them to Coachella over the Killers would certainly be plausible with those dates, but I would have to question the logic behind that. I feel like it would piss off more people who already had tickets (and hate Coldplay) than it would sell additional tickets (to people who will do anything to see Coldplay).

  5. Funny how they cancelled their Western Canadian dates last year. But didn’t reschedual with a 5 day gap from Roskild to Portland. You guys suck. At least I won’t have to see you headline Sasquatch, although with there being 20 days to go before the apparent announcement of the Quatch lineup (lineup announcement has been between feb 24th and 28th the last 3 years)I’m starting to wonder if this is going to be a Lagerado Debacle.

  6. yes, i knew the tour was going to be announced.

What i am confused about is why everyone is so concerned with who is playing unopposed? I just got some info on who is playing this year and i have passed it off. That’s all.

  7. Johnny J, you just said in the other (Lollapalooza) thread you didn’t know who was unopposed and that Tool was playing Saturday and Jane’s Sunday, did you not? This leads me to believe it may still be Jane’s (though you may just be responding to Carl’s post that Tool is more than a rumour).

And just to confirm, did you know the Coldplay dates were going to drop today (you said “you will see that Coldplay is not playing…soon” in the Lolla thread)and they were going to turn out like this (seriously I’m not questioning you anymore, just looking for more info)?

  8. anyone notice coldplay does not have an LA Date ? ? ? ? ? COACHELLA? ? ? ? ? ?

  9. It’s Tool.

  10. By the way, I thought this article was also going to be about My Morning Jacket. That was cruel.

  11. I guess that makes my prediction/wish that Green Day will be the unopposed headliner at Lollapalooza this year much more likely. That is, unless they think Janes Addiction could carry it. Or maybe those off-the-wall Tool rumors are true…

  12. no New England or New York?

  13. [...] Blink 182 will reunite and present an award, Green Day will offer a “special surprise,” Chris Martin will wear his jacket and maybe get served, and M.I.A. will attempt to perform, while holding in her first child. And [...]
