What break? Foo Fighters plan next album

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but wasn’t it just a few months ago that Dave Grohl was telling fans not to expect a new Foo Fighters album anytime soon saying, “We’ve never really taken a long break, I think it’s time”? Yeah, so much for that.

In a recent interview with NME, drummer Taylor Hawkins revealed that the band has already begun work on the follow up to 2007’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, and plans to hit the studio sometime this summer. “We’ve gotten together and minced ideas already…I’d say maybe by summer we’ll get in the studio and start getting serious about a record,” Hawkins explained. While details remain sketchy, it’s safe to say that whatever composes the Foo Fighter’s seventh studio album will continue to be a direct reflection of the band’s fearless frontman. Per Hawkins:

“He’s a complete control freak..But he’s the nicest control freak you ever meet in your life. He tells me what to do but we work off each other as well. He’s a drummer first and foremost. He’s become a great singer and songwriter but he’s a drummer first. When we’re working together on music, not only do you have one drummer’s ideas but you have two of them coming from totally different places.”

Of course, we’re still a long ways off until summertime, meaning there is still plenty of time for Grohl to get in all the necessary side engagements - supporting Paul McCartney at the Grammys, honoring Nick Drake, and hanging with Led Zeppelin (sorry, I had to do it!).
