Rancid, Rise Against unveil U.S. dates

Punk rock at Red Rocks? May sound like an odd combination, especially when the words Warped Tour aren’t attached, but come June 11th, that’s exactly what will happen when Rancid and Rise Against perform at the legendary amphitheatre. In fact, that’s what will be going down pretty much everywhere for the better part of the summer.

As previously reported, the two high-profile punk outfits will team for up for a North American tour beginning in early June. The trek, which will reportedly feature Rise Against headlining with Rancid, Riverboat Gamblers, and Billy Talent performing in support - someone tell me how that works? - currently runs until the end of July, but with a few crucial dates missing, more are likely still forthcoming. Of course, if you believe the rumors, one date in particular (Chicago) will likely be in the form of festival appearance (Lollapalooza).

Ahead of the tour, or sometime during it, or after, or nevermind, Rancid is expected to release its long-awaited, yet-to-be-titled seventh studio album.

Tickets go on sale beginning Wednesday, February 25th via Ticketmaster.com.

  1. last time i checked punk died in the 80s. get over it. punk is dead. punk rock isnt.

  2. im in md what songs did rancid play i would say around here rancids the shit while RA is good its rancid all the way.

  3. i like rise against but i easily think rancid should headline over them. cornerstone of punk revival, living legends! i’ll be there anyway, hoping they dont play too much of ‘let the dominoes fall’

  4. I’m a big Rancid fan. They always stay true to there roots and are musical geniuses. But why is everyone bashing Rise Against? They have really good lyrics and a very aggressive sound. They are nothing like Rancid, but you have to appreciate what they are about. A lot of there songs promote anarchy and making the world a better place, which is what true punk rock is about. Yes they are mainstream, which I agree, defeats the purpose of singing about anarchy, but Against Me! did the same thing. Maybe it’s just there way of getting the word out there.

  5. WHY THE FUCK WOULD A NOW KIDDIE CORE SHIT BAND LIKE rISE aGAINST HEADLINE OVER RANCID.AND FUCK ANY SHIT-BRAIN KID ON HERE WHO THINKS THEY SHOULD.THIS IS RANCID JUST BEING NICE TO SOME CRAP BANDS,RANCID IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST PUNK BANDS OF ALL TIME.IDE RATHER SIT IN MY OWN SHIT THAN WATCH BILLY TALLENT OR RISE AGAINST,WHO SHOULD BE TOURING WITH FLYLEAF OR SOMETHING SHITTY LIKE THAT,AND IF YOU YOU DONT AGREE,WHO GIVES A FUCK,CAUSE YOUR THE TYPE OF PERSON WHO HAS RUINED PUNK,AND EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS COUNTRY,WELL YOU AND GEORGE BUSH.FUCK YOU ALL.

  6. 50 bucks to see Rancid? I remember seeing them for 5 bucks!. I don’t give a shit about Rise Against so I can’t really justify that kind of ticket price. I really hope they tour on their own in the fall/Winter. I’ll pass on this one.

  7. I can’t fucking believe that Rancid is playing with these shits. This is a fucking shame, Rancid should be headlining if anything. Now I have to pay 50 bucks to see them at the Molson Amphitheatre. When i them the past two time at the Kool Haus with an actual good headliner for only 20… Greed… such a fucking shame.

  8. play more in the north east

  9. >> where do you get the idea that Rise Against is the bigger name? <<

Recent activity and new release, more radio play, inclusion on a NOW comp a few years ago, all give RA the edge. They have more mainstream appeal than Rancid, who faded out of the mainstream and back into the punk scene after Out Come the Wolves. Anything mainstream about Rancid would be bordering on nostalgia at this point.

Not that I’m happy about it…

  10. I agree, RYG, I hope neither show at Lolla…

  11. James - Rise Against is actually listed as the headliner on the press release. No mention of it being a co-headlining. And where do you get the idea that Rise Against is the bigger name? Last I checked, Rancid is still one of the most significant punk bands around…

  12. Its technically a Co-headlining tour. Rise Against is the bigger name, but out of respect for Rancid, they decided to make it a co-headliner. Who will actually play last though is up to anyone’s guess. Rise Against most likely.

  13. yeah i figured they will add an NYC soon, but whats worse is that rancid is probably opening.

  14. Jesse…good catch.

rancidrocker…like I said, more dates are likely coming.

  15. guys you got it wrong,Riverboat Gamblers are only opening the first half, while Billy Talent are opening the 2nd half of the tour.

  16. WTF??! why aren’t they coming to there fav. place in the world?? NYC!!!! i might as well just go to buffalo ;(

  17. ugh rise against would be terrible at lollapalooza. Im hoping its not true

  18. Hmm I may go to the Houston one :)

  19. wow, no NYC tri state area. if they dont add one thats the third year in a row i have missed rancid

  20. I’ll be at one of the Orlando dates for sure.

Yay, for Billy Talent opening as well.

  21. [...] ( … so it was just me and Cricket. She seemed happy to play in my room so I got dressed Rancid, Rise Against unveil U.S. dates - consequenceofsound.net 02/23/2009 Punk rock at Red Rocks? May sound like an odd combination, [...]
