Beastie Boys bring bizarre beats to new record
Yep, the oh-so-clever alliteration says it all. Fresh off a reissued Paul’s Boutique, everybody’s favorite Jewish rappers are at it again. This time, in the form of Tadlock’s Glasses, their forthcoming 8th longplayer. Yes, as Adam “MCA” Yauch recently divulged to the to BB6music, the Beastie Boys have settled on a name for the followup to 2007’s The Mix-Up, apparently inspired from the band’s former tour bus driver, “who was once presented with a pair of glasses by Elvis.” Sound strange? That’s only the beginning.
Speaking of the album, Yauch went on to confirm it will in fact mark the group’s return to the hip-hop side of things, but with a style that still hearkens back to The Mix-Up: “It’s a combination of playing and sampling stuff as we’re playing, and also sampling pretty obscure records.” No wonder MCA used the word “bizarre” to describe the effort.
As for exact specifics, most everything is still undecided, including a release date - the trio still have to master the album - but Yauch did reveal that when Tadlock’s Glasses is finally unveiled, it wil feature a number of selections to chose from. “There are a lot of songs on the record and there are a lot of short songs and they kind of all run into each other,” he notes.
The release will likely be supported by a summer tour, as evident by their recently announced appearance at Bonnaroo.
