Late Night Lobotomy (Week of 3/2)
Alas, Conan is gone and Jimmy Fallon steps in to fill his big, floppy shoes. Despite any reservations I’ve had about Fallon (and there have been many), he’s starting off well enough. Having The Roots as his house band and booking Robert DeNiro, Santigold, Tina Fey, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah on his first week? Uh, pretty good, Jimmy. Pretty good. Let’s hope he can keep it up.
Elsewhere the lineups are pretty spectacular too, with Little Boots, Neko Case, and N.A.S.A. getting some love. And a little band by the name of U2 has a week-long residency with Letterman. It’s as if booking agents suddenly woke up and recognized good music. Let’s hope it lasts.
