Nine Inch Nails, Jane’s Addiction roll out U.S. tour dates

Update: Now with the right dates! And trust us, these are the right ones!

In a little over two months, Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction will officially embark on what will be the road trip on the summer. The two-high profile outfits, one of which (NIN) will be capping off the end, while the other (Jane’s) will be celebrating a fresh start, have unveiled dates for a North American tour scheduled to kick off in early May 8th in West Palm Beach, Florida.

After the sunshine state, the 24-date trek will take the two bands west, highlighted by their previously announced appearance at this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival on May 24th. Stops at just about everywhere follow - aside from Texas, meaning there are probably a still TBA dates - and all, except one will feature the co-headlining extravaganza of Trent Reznor and Perry Farrell.

The two exceptions? One will be a May 29th stop at Chicago’s Charter One Pavilion. The reasoning? Lollapalooza of course. With Jane’s Addiction all but confirmed to headline this year’s edition of the Chicago festival, it looks as if the band’s frontman is adhering to his festival’s strict clause. You know, the one that says bands can’t play within a 100 mile radius of Chi-Town within two months of a Lollapalooza? But since, NIN took the stage of Grant Park last year and is already booked to play Japan’s Summer Sonic the same weekend as Lolla ‘09, Trent and Co. still needed a Chicago date. So, they’ll be going at it alone.

The other? This year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival; as of now, only NIN is scheduled to take part.

Ticket information is still forthcoming.

In related news, Jane’s Addiction also used this week to officially unveil details of a brand new box set. Scheduled for release on April 21st via Rhino Records, A Cabinet of Curiosities will offer a slew of previously unheard demos, rarities, and live performances across three CDs and one DVD. The latter will also include the previously unavailable documentary, Soul Kiss. Check out the full tracklist after the dates…

  1. I wonder why no MA dates?

  2. ahemmm… 5/29 NIN Only Charter One…

I think this means we can safely put Janes Addiction in the confirmed column for Lolla

  3. *** Fri-May-29 Chicago, IL [Charter One Pavilion] NINE INCH NAILS Only

  4. nin.com updated with actual dates.

  5. publicist came out and said dates are fake

  6. these dates are NOT correct.

the fray are already booked to play the moslon ampithetare on june 23.

  7. It seems odd that Farrell is playing Coachella solo about a month before heading out on a reunion tour, but what do I know?

  8. hey archie i don’t know what kinda music you like or listen too but jane’s addiction is a band unlike most. jane’s addiction not only plays greast music there lyrics are ripe. next time you should listen to the words more than they hype you get in this gossip world

    Peace

  9. THESE DATES ARE NOT REAL !!!
    THESE DATES ARE NOT REAL!!!

  10. I hope this is true….. my June schedule is lacking lol

  11. Sweet, so I get to go to Jones Beach two nights in a row, considering NIN/Janes and No Doubt are playing consecutive days.

    What a weekend.

  12. whatttt? if that clause is true, it’s ridiculous and shouldn’t exist.

I really don’t think venues and bands would lose out on money by scheduling a show close to Lollapalooza. I’m sure most people would rather see bands headlining their own show rather than in a festival setting.

On another note, I really hope NIN schedules a Chicago show besides Alpine. Northerly Island would be sweet.

  13. Beyond any type of radius clause or anything…it’s just not great business for his band or his festival for Jane’s to headline Lolla just a month and a half after playing a very large venue in the area. It takes a lot of the luster off one of the fest’s major headliners and it’s going to cut the chance that the NINJA show will sell out at Alpine…a rather difficult task as it is.

  14. Agree, but you would think with the negative press the radius clause gets that if there are so many exceptions, that they would just reduce the size of the radius (if it is indeed 250).

  15. well, as far as them being too close technically, i think we also have to take into account that this is perry farrels festival.

he can pretty much do whatever he wants

  16. I’m saying that I have no idea what they did. All I know is that lots of bands play Lolla and also play other cities in the Midwest.

  17. Are you saying they interviewed C3 and just threw a number out there that C3 may have not given or a different one from the given one (I am surprised why they didn’t explicitly have a Q and A on what exactly the radius clause is).

  18. I’m still calling BS on this. They say in the article that the clause is mostly for big bands “like Radiohead”…well, Radiohead played Indianapolis last summer the NEXT NIGHT. And without doing extensive research on the matter…I would guarantee that the majority of the bands on the lineup each year also played dates in Detroit, Milwaukee, or Indy in the weeks surrounding Lolla.

    250 my ass…

  19. wait do people actually like janes addiction, or is it just an excuse for being able to say one big name is at lolla, cause i just cant see someone gettin hyped over a band like them>>

That’s really unfortunate for you, archie. However, tons of people like Jane’s Addiction. Why? Because they’re one of the most influential acts in the last twenty-five years. They only pioneered the alternative movement in the ’90s, gave new meaning to the modern frontman, and nearly reformed the guitar styling that’d be prevalent years later.

    They’re a big deal.

  20. Derp?

  21. wait do people actually like janes addiction, or is it just an excuse for being able to say one big name is at lolla, cause i just cant see someone gettin hyped over a band like them

  22. Radius clause is 250 miles? I’ve never heard that. That is absurd and I don’t think I believe it.

If that were the case bands playing Lolla would be blacked out from playing Detroit, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, and a number of other places during that span. Lolla cannot possibly be allowed to dictate the summer concert scene to that extent.

  23. Time Out article says radius clause is 250 miles, this is less than 100 away (Alpine Valley).

  24. lollalollalollalollalollalollalolla

  25. Shouldn’t you guys mention that Alpine Valley essentially serves the Chicago area and could in some cases be considered a Chicago date (within the two month period that Lolla acts don’t play)?

  26. [...] up hasn’t been together in years, and it doesn’t hurt they’re sporting one of the coolest tours in ages (NIN? C’mon!). Something tells us that Farrell and co. are hip to this idea, which might [...]

  27. [...] already knew that NIN/JA’s recently announced two-month North American tour would be one for the ages - after all, the 24 stops will both celebrate the end of Trent Reznor and [...]
