Bob Dylan and Neil Young taking over April

Move over Silversun Pickups, Super Furry Animals, The Thermals, and all you other outfits set to offer new releases in April! Sure, we still love you, but perhaps it’d be a wise decision to follow in the footsteps of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and move up your respective release dates. Ok, so maybe the forthcoming new efforts from Bob Dylan and Neil Young aren’t the reason Karen O moved up the release of It’s Blitz!, but I’d like to think it was - after all, let me repeat. Bob Dylan and Neil Young are releasing new albums…and they are both set to be released in April.

First, the news as it relates to Mr. Dylan. As we first told you last month, the Minnesota born singer/songwriter was apparently so pleased with his recent time in the studio working on the soundtrack for the upcoming film, My Own Love Song, that he kept going, and recorded a brand new studio album. At the time, an April release date was rumored, which has since been confirmed by Rolling Stone’s David Fricke, who also managed to get a few other details about the followup to 2006’s Modern Times. In an article appearing in this week’s issue of the magazine, Fricke reveals that the yet-to-be-titled album will feature 10 tracks “with a seductive border-cafe feel (courtesy of the accordion on every track) and an emphasis on struggling-love songs.” To achieve this, Dylan reportedly tapped a slew of guests, including Los Lobos’ David Hidalgo rumored on accordion, along with his usual backing band.

At this point, life couldn’t get much better, right?

Oh, it certainly can, especially when you factor in the other high-profile release set to his music stores in April. On the 7th to be exact, Dylan’s Canadian contemporary, Neil Young, will be dishing out his own new release, a 10-track effort entitled Fork in the Road. Described by Rolling Stone as a “theme record about Young’s Linc Volt electric car project,” the album will feature nine selections previously debuted during Young’s recent North American tour, including the album’s title track which was recently offered in the form of a new music video.

Fork in the Road Tracklist:

04. Johnny Magic
05. Cough Up The Bucks
06. Get Behind The Wheel

  1. Ahhh … to hear Bobby’s voice anew … can’t wait.

  2. never mind “fork in the road” neil, please please please get on with releasing “archives”, some of us are going to die without hearing this! how much longer and how many more release dates can we take? Is this a big con and there is nothing to be revealed at the end of this? and yes i am a huge neil fan and have been since the start, and how i hope that one day i can be listening to this!

  3. A pleasant surprise from Bob.

  4. Hmmm. I might be more excited about a new Neil Young album if he hadn’t been cranking out a new one out every year for the past 3 decades (none of which have been that great since Silver & Gold IMO). Take a break from recording Neil and stick to touring or putting out your “archives.”
