Pitchfork ‘09 unveils its lineup
“Well lookie what we have here!” Bold words by a bad man (Back to the Future’s Biff Tannen), yet a fitting reaction when looking at the initial line up for this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival. Thanks to the likes of Greg Kot (of the Chicago Tribune), the lineup’s out, the word’s on the streets, and many hipsters are crying tears — oh, but tears of joy!
Heading the fourth annual event, Chicago’s own reunited The Jesus Lizard will stomp about the mid-July weekend, which again takes place in Chicago’s Union Park. As we reported last year, the Lizard are celebrating ‘09 with Touch & Go reissues and a handful of shows, so an appearance at the festival is just the icing on the proverbial, celebratory cake. Oh, but what a sweet, sweet chew…
Built to Spill, Grizzly Bear, The Jesus Lizard, The National, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Pharoahe Monch, Tortoise, Vivian Girls, The Walkmen, Yo La Tengo
The National? Yo La Tengo? The Walkmen? This summer’s looking very, very nice already, and if you’re busying around the Midwest, you’d be smart to stop in for this. Considering this is the initial line up, they can only add to this impressive collection (Black Lips, anyone?). But wait, there’s more…
Each of the bands will play a set handpicked by fans. Anyone who buys a ticket starting March 13 will receive an email providing a link to a web page where they can vote on which songs they’d like to hear each band perform. Voting will end June 12.
The festival takes place July 17-19, with early bird tickets on-sale March 13. Other artists will be announced over the coming months, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled to our Festival Outlook.
