Reunion apparently back on! Pixies play Isle of Wight!

So maybe it’s not as big as some of the other possible reunions out there, but hey, for the sake that the band at hand is actually backing up the talk and playing a show, it’s well worth the excitement. The Pixies are set to return this summer with a headlining appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival, the U.K. festival announced today. It will mark the band’s first performance in over two years and and first in Europe in over four.

This year’s Isle of Wight, scheduled to take place from June 12-14, will also feature Neil Young, The Prodigy, Basement Jaxx, Pendulum, Razorlight, and The Ting Tings. The full lineup is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The Pixes will serve as the warm-up act for the festival’s closer, Neil Young, on Sunday. Per promoter John Giddings (via Reuters):

“Having the Pixies complementing Neil Young feels just right…People didn’t believe me when I told them. They thought it was too good to be true”

The news comes just months after frontman Frank Black told NME that he would be unopposed to reuniting the band for a new studio album.

No word on whether the band will take its reunion back to the U.S., though I’m sure I’m not the only one imagining the Pixies taking the stage at Grant Park come early August.

  1. Hey, Goddamn Devil. Just because some bands have reunited and are touring these days (like the Pixies) doesn’t mean they need a new album. Gorilla Biscuits, Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, Twisted Sister, Blur, The Jesus Lizard and Green River (the band that featured Mudhoney and Pearl Jam members) have also been back together but none of these bands intend to release a new album.

  2. I remember back in around 2004 that the Pixies were planning on releasing a new album in 2005. 2005 has passed and it has still never been released. Hopefully after the tour, they’ll get a chance to start recording it (or finish it, if they had been recording it).

  3. I was under the impression that they are not going to be recording any new album. Just touring sometimes.

  4. lol yes Chris, I am named after that Ugly Kid Joe song.

  5. Good question, Goddamn Devil. All Pixies’ albums are both completely awesome and brilliant, and I wonder when the new album’s coming out too, it’s been more than 15 long years now.

By the way, Goddamn Devil, just one question: Are you named after that Ugly Kid Joe song?

  6. When the hell is the new album coming out? I’ve been waiting for a new Pixies album since they reunited.

  7. they’re really, really amazing. i don’t know if i can see them having an extensive tour or anything with their crazy history of weird chemistry, but i’m jealous of anyone who goes to this

  8. the pixies headlined the weezer/pixies show here. perhaps they switched each night as it was a co-headlining tour.

wonder if nine inch nails and jane’s addiction will do the same this summer?

  9. i will be so very upset i didnt get the $60 tickets.>>>

  11. Seeing them play “Monkey Gone to Heaven” live was just…whoa. Too good. They played the best year of Lolla, in its modern form, yet. 2005. So good. Opening for Weezer? Who would have thunk it?

  13. [...] When will the madness stop? The Pixies are toying around with more reunion rumors (and they are now actually slated to play Isle of Wight) and now the Stone Roses? Yes, indeed. The band is rumored to be playing the Coachella Music [...]
