Watch: Cursive rips up “From the Hips” on Letterman
Even if you’re not a fan of Cursive’s latest offerings, or the band in general, Friday night’s Late Show showcased a band that is well worth caring about. Playing “From the Hips” off of the just-released Mama, I’m Swollen the Omahan, Nebraska angst-ridden rockers more than aptly translated the momentous track to a live setting, so much so that it became almost twice as good as on record. The song evolves so perfectly from its sparse mellow beginnings to its powerful climax. After Letterman pokes some fun at the album’s title, he rushes out to shake the band members’ hands and proceeds to ask them where they hail from. Letterman was impressed, as well he should have been:

Really? I was watching Letterman and I thought it sounded like shit.
Saw this on the broadcast. Amazed as well. It’s really an indictment of their producer/recording process. That version is 1000x’s better than the recorded. Oddly, I love the recorded version.
