U2 taps Muse as tour opener?
Update: It now appears supporting acts include Snow Patrol, Glasvegas, Elbow, Kaiser Chiefs in Europe and the UK, as well as Snow Patrol, Muse and Black Eyed Peas in North America….
Given all that went down earlier this month, it’s a bit strange not seeing U2’s name floating around the headlines. But with the pre-sale for the band’s upcoming North American tour set to begin, um, like today! and rumors of what appears to be an unbelievably stellar opener, the excitement will likely kick back up, um, like now!
What’s this unbelievably stellar opener I speak of? Well, if you head to the box office homepage for Giants Stadium, where U2 is scheduled to perform on September 24th, it list the following: “Special Guest Muse.” Unless some other band named Muse has formed up in the last 24 hours, or some ticket agent’s attempt to toy with our emotions, it’s certainly appears as if the English trio will be joining Bono and crew for at least one U.S. tour date.

We’ll let you take that in for a moment.
Then there’s the part about Muse potentially releasing a new album, the followup to 2006’s Black Holes & Revelations, sometime in September, which when combined with the fact that U2 may have another new album of its own by then, both outfits have multiple #1 albums, and both hail from Europe, well it basically becomes a new-music-loving-fan-of-British-bands-who-make-number-one-albums ultimate wet dream. And that’s even without mentioning the rumored yet-to-be-announced U.S. dates (note the italics)…

First, about playing for large live audiences. As a stand-alone concert, Muse has played for about 90 000 at Wembley. At the Glastonbury festival, at least 100 000 attented the main stage when Muse played there (cap on whole festival = 175 000). Not to mention it was broadcast to millions… The support tour will not be particularly larger than that.
Second, about the support act. They did this because there are still many places in North America they haven’t visited, and would like to let people from that area get to see them live as well. As a bonus, they thought, they would be able to learn from U2’s shows and maybe get some inspiration, or at least experience, there.
So check up your facts before claiming something retarded as that. Not to mention calling them “Emo” (which would in the worst case be the ‘Twilight’ fans, who veteran Muse fans grumbles over) which is a totally braindead statement. I’m not raging, just stating
Love to U2 and Muse from a Muse-follower for half a lifetime (In 2012 - I’m 21).
I know that Muse will conquer America when it doesn’t have to front another band. U2 and them should each do it alone. It’s Muse’s turn! And it’s ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!
I’m waiting for a miracle. You know-when I get to see Matt’s performance live. Muse is the best band on the planet. Maybe even in the Milky Way. Luv those guys.

The Unforgettable Fire is the fourth studio album by Irish rock band U2, released in 1984. Far more ambient and abstract than the hard-hitting War, it was at the time, the band’s most marked change in direction, and was the group’s first collaboration with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois.

U2 is a legend and i think Muse will learn some old tricks from them. the new album from Muse is “The Resistance” just buy and listen, its a mind blowing master piece
Would it be awesome to have a full concert from Muse instead of just an opener show? Yes. Are U2 and Muse very different types of music? Yes. Should both be judged by each others fans? No. Artists live for the fans and the art of music? Yes. Would these artists share a private meeting with all the haters here? NO. Do we ever hear artists critizising each other like these people posting nasty posts? NO. Its good that some people never get to meet their artists, that could affect their inspiration to compose such good music. Have some people learned about respect and the VARIETY of everything on this world? I guess not.
Does anyone know if Muse is opening for U2 in Raleigh?
Muse has made a way bigger impact in a short amount of time then U2 did during all their years trying to break free from being just another “new wave” band in the 80s.
I love all these Emo haters trashing U2! If given the opportunity to sell as many albums and perform to such large audiences, Muse would trade places with U2 without even a thought! Oh wait, they did the next best thing, they opened for U2. Before you Muse fans continue to hate on U2, remember it was your beloved Muse that made the decision to play to the largest audiences they ever had the opportunity to perform in front of by agreeing to open for one of the greatest artists in music history. Show some appreciation for a music legend that is giving your band this opportunity. Afterall, isn’t opening for the biggest band in the world considered SELLING OUT?!? Welcome to super stardom. Now you will have to defend your band to all the haters that claim Muse has sold out… =*
is muse really opening at the arlington stadium? i hope so!
Alex, U2 aren’t British, they are Irish. You know the way America had a War of Independence to get freedom from their British oppressors, so did Ireland.
Heard muse was also playing the rose bowl. Can anyone confirm?
I’m 56 and I saw MUSE 3 times in St. Louis Mo., and I have been to way to many concerts to count lol! those three shows were the best concerts I have ever been to, and I love U2, but MUSE is no opening act for anybody-they are too awesome!!! You get your moneys worth at any price from them….
well, this thread covers the fact that MUSE are playing giants stadium with U2!!!
anyone know if muse is playing at the giants stadiums ones?
I heard a commercial for the arlington show and it said muse was opening the oct 12th show right on!!!!!
UGH. Does anyone know if Muse will be in Dallas??? I’ve saved up $144 SO FAR to get good seats to see Muse, which I’ve been waiting for FOR 6 YEARS, so yeah. But I don’t think U2 deserves Muse. They can do much better than that. I’d probably leave after I see Muse. Hahahaha.
Ah…can you do me a favor, what of U2’s tours will Muse be there? thanks.^^
how do you know snow patrol is going to chicago? anyone know or hear who is opening in tampa?
please reveal a website or source or something please….
Chicago is definitely getting Snow Patrol? I’d definitely prefer Muse.
Someone needs to find this out for me before tickets go on sale Monday
U2 should be licking Muse’s balls. Muse is so so so so so much better and more talented. Bono can eat my shit.
portmanteau > acronym
Step aside Nine Inch Nials and Janes Addiction NINJA tour, you just owned by
The Muse and U2 MUTWO TOUR! (as in Mewtwo the pokemon)
Take that catchy acronyms
Vancouver is supposed to get Black Eyed Peas
I might have to goto NY for this one. Or just throw rocks at Fergie.
i wonder how many of u2 shows muse is gonna play. i know phoenix aint gonna get them cuz we get crap for shows
Oh…and Martin…tickets are $30, $55, $98 and $250…$55 for the floor…I wouldnt say thats a trillion..
Chicago is getting Snow Patrol not Muse..thank God I got my tickets for Giants Stadium!
I am a Muse whore…… so even though I dont like U2 that much, I may have to buy cheap chicago tickets
Sadly though this tour will need 120 trucks to cart it from place to place, and that is just for the stage. So much for saving the planet.
Great, now i will have to pay a trillion dollars to see Muse, because of U2.
Carl, they did have a proper US tour though. After the baffling tour with MCshit they do a tour with Cold War Kids. I saw them in Mass and despite it being a sitting venue (hate those)it was an amazing show. They blew fire over Matt while he soloed. And don’t even get me started on the bliss balls filled with confetti.
http://360.u2.com/
go to dates and venues, then click on your local show, and you will see how they are going to set the stage up. its kinda neat.
At the minimum, U2 is going to have a really spectacular stage setup for the 360 Tour.
At least U2 is a step up from My Chemical Romance.>>>
I agree. I REALLY want a regular tour from Muse. However, having them with U2 is a major plus for this tour. I love how they tagged Snow Patrol too, a band who borrows from U2 heavily.
Fuck. Are they ever going to do a proper US tour?! At least U2 is a step up from My Chemical Romance. I’m just glad I got to see them at Lolla 2007…
Yeah, I don’t know what I was thinking on that one.
Yeah I was going to say… unless the count their dude who plays everything as part of the band now.
the last time i checked, MUSE had only 3 members…
should be U2 opening for MUSE…U2 sux
i guess i’ll be going to see u2….meh.
Muse and U2???? I feel bad for the lighting people….. also I PRAY there will be a MI date added.
well… if Muse is playing the Chicago date, they just sold me a pair of tickets
uh black holes and revelations was their last album you might want to correct that.
