Seriously, I’m not sure what was more exciting about last night: Jimmy Fallon making his late night debut or that the Jimmy Fallon tag on CoS went live!
I kid, because in all sincerity, once you get past the sweat dripping down his face and the few moments of awkward nervousness, Fallon wasn’t half bad. In fact, between the opening sketch with Conan, Justin Timberlake’s impressions of John Mayer, and the world’s great house band ever…The Roots!, the first 60 minutes of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon was actually quite entertaining.
And that’s even without mentioning Van Morrison. Hot off his weekend stint at Madison Square Garden, the legendary musician took to Fallon for another revisit of Astral Weeks, this in the form of a performance of “Sweet Thing”. Draped in all black and backed by a fairly large musical accompaniment, Morrison offered a pretty brilliant rendition of 1968 classic, which both reminded us that there is something incredibly wrong that Astral Weeks never charted upon its initial release and provided the punctuation mark for a night that got better as it went on.

Oh, and don’t forget to tune in the rest of the week. Bon Jovi, Santigold, Ludacris and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will all be apppearing as Fallon’s musical guests over the remainder of the week.
