Blink-182 taps Weezer as opener?
There’s really no good way to open a piece of news like this, so let’s just get on with it. According to Buzznet, an “informed source” has revealed that the recently reunited Blink-182 has tapped Weezer to serve as the opener for its upcoming summer tour.
Now, skeptics will probably point to the multitude of rumors that have surfaced since Blink announced its reunion plans at the Grammys earlier this year - after all, everyone from No Doubt to Green Day has been mentioned as possible touring partners. That being said, there are a variety of reasons why the rumor of a Blink/Weezer tour may in fact be true.
For one, the possibility of Weezer opening is nothing new. As far back as late February, the combination has been mentioned. Next, there’s the fact that aside from the 21-date “Hootenanny” tour last October, one which featured Angels & Airwaves as an opener, Weezer has yet to fully support The Red Album. Surely, what looks to be a North American arena tour running from August to October would do just that. And finally, well, there isn’t any reason not to believe this. With an economy still in the gutter and a few high-profile tours to do battle with (see: No Doubt), by bringing Weezer along for the ride, at the very least, Blink can sell a few more tickets, and more expensive ones at that. And for a band that had t-shirts for sale on its website just seconds after announcing its comeback plans, that’s probably the most important thing…
As always, more as it comes…

My source said that it will be 100 percent Weezer and they also said I’m a douche.
My source said it’s a lock and also my source said I’m a douche.
Except now those 12 year old girls are in their late teens and early twenties…
Yeah, Weezer and Foos BOTH played 90 minute sets. That doesn’t mean Weezer opened for them because they shared the bill. I don’t see how a band that headlined Madison Square Garden can “open” for Blink-182.
I’m sorry but twelve year old girls do not listen to to blink 182. They did when they were big but practically all of those twelve year old girls are in college now. This tour will be a lot of fun.
your mom, Weezer “opened” for the Foo Fighters in 2005. i saw them in cleveland and the Kaiser Cheifs opened with a 45 minute set, followed by Weezer with a 90 minute set, and finally the Foos with another 90 minute set. this could work if the bill it more as a co-headlining tour than anything.
I have confirmation from a band working with Mark that Weezer will in fact be the touring partner. Will not disclose my source but I would definately count it as true.
What do you mean? The Troublemaker Tour was their support of the Red Album, the Hootenany wasn’t a full-blown tour. Plus, I thought Weezer was going on tour with Oasis this summer? I just don’t think Weezer would “open” for Blink, it would have to be a co-headlining tour, resulting in shorter sets and pissed off twelve-year-old girls. It just wouldn’t work out.
