The Roots planning to release new album on June 23rd?

So says ?uestlove’s Twitter:

label heads are amped about (us?)….(again?) they want album out 6/23/09. prep time LET’S GO!

If true, the yet-to-be-titled effort will serve as the followup to last year’s Rising Down.

So much for Jimmy Fallon taking up all their time. Between this, The Roots Picnic, Rock the Bells, and the slew of other tour dates currently on the band’s agenda, The Roots seriously look to be busy as ever.

  1. they are playing here at the Sundaze Festival at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA on APRIL 18th with the thermals. not an essential date.. just letting you know!

  2. Damn - I totally forgot Jimmy Fallon was going to be there. Apologies for overlooking that all-too crucial piece of info.

I like that Fallon’s branching out into tech & culture stuff for the show (beyond movie/TV stars, musical guests).

  3. Amen, Jeremy. No way they WON’T be at Bonnaroo, IMO.

  4. Yeah but since Public Enemy and Jimmy Fallon will be at Bonnaroo and the Roots are backing Public Enemy in Philly the week before, I could see them backing PE for a late-night set. They don’t really have anything as the lineup stands right now that would wow you for the hip hip late-night tent like they did the last two years (Chali 2na with Galactic and Galactic with Boots Riley, Gift of Gab, Lyrics Born, Lateef and others). This would fit the bill.

  5. I don’t think they’re play Bonnaroo, especially if their dates before & after are in NY. Those NY dates are part of their weekly residency in NY at the Highline. I’m pretty sure they have all of their live weeks on the show mapped out for the year and have as many dates for min-tours filled in as possible.

  6. Like how they have open dates during Bonnaroo.

  7. [...] a recent tweet from Roots drummer Questlove reveals, Jimmy Fallon’s personal house band has again decided to push back the album’s release date. sorry yall. i know its a pain in the ass. but [...]
