Outside Lands ‘09 rounds up Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, Beastie Boys, and a slew of others

*Updated w/ line up*

After rounding up Radiohead, Beck, Tom Petty, and he whose name shall not be spoken for its inaugural edition last year, San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music Festival will return for a second go around, once again providing all those festival junkies a pretty stellar way of capping off their summer.

Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, and the Beastie Boys will head Outside Lands 2009, scheduled for August 28-30 at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Other acts of note include Tom Jones (wtf? Awesome!), The Mars Volta, TV on the Radio, Modest Mouse, Black Eyed Peas, Jason Mraz, M.I.A, Thievery Corporation, Incubus and Ween.

Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas, Incubus, Jason Mraz, M.I.A., The Mars Volta, Modest Mouse, Thievery Corporation, TV on the Radio, Ween, Band of Horses, The Dead Weather, Atmosphere, Tom Jones, Silversun Pickups, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, The National, Q-Tip, Brett Dennen, Built to Spill, Mastodon, Raphael Saadiq, Calexico, OS Mutantes, Midnite, JJ Grey & Mofro, Deerhunter, Lila Downs, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave, The Dodos, Bettye Lavette, Dengue Fever, Heartless Bastards, The Dirtbombs, Lenka, Akron/Family, John Vanderslice, Matt & Kim, Portugal. The Man, The Morning Benders, The Duke Spirit, Zee Avi, Blind Pilot, Sambada, Ryan Bingham, West Indian Girl, Extra Golden

This year, organizers promise quite a number of “improvements,” or should I say “more” of everything for the three-day weekend, including more local restaurants, more wine, more eco-initiatives, and most importantly, more music with a longer Friday.

Three-day and VIP passes will be available beginning April 15th via sfoutsidelands.com.

  1. Very excited for another year of Outside Lands!! Great Music, Beautiful park in an amazing city, it doesn’t get much better than that.
JB24 in response to some of your Qs: If i remember correctly music starts early, before noon its an all day thing.. Cant really remember what time it ended (later at night) I was having way too much fun to care for checking the time.
Unfortunately no camping, but soo many hotels around the city and it doesn’t really matter where you stay; public transportation makes it easy to get to and from the park!

No negativity on my end. Its a young festival as the years progress the glitches will get worked out. All in all it was a great weekend last year!

  2. ya im going to ACL instead…. same headliners… much cheaper….austin is easier to get around than SF etc etc etc. No offense outside lands but, again, not this year.

  3. Can anyone give me the low done on some pros and cons of this festival. Like what time does music start/end? Is there camping or just hotels? Very stellar lineup with Thievery added to the mix. Thanks for anyone who can answer these questions.

It’s not like we did that intentionally. I typed them up myself, and I’m actually an Incubus fan.

  7. Incubus is ahead of Black Eyed Peas on every list except for CoS of course. So typical.

  8. OMG PEARL JAM!!!!!!

  9. Well that’s what I would think as well, I just know there’s going to be people bitching about having the same three potential headliners. I wouldn’t care I love PJ and the Beastie Boys, I just heard some people whining about it. I’m glad your view is more positive on the situation…wasn’t trying to offend you with the Texas Boys…you are welcome to call me a boring stupid Midwest OH boy anytime.

  10. Why would us “Texas boys” bitch? We get to see the same bands for a lot cheaper.

  11. I can already here the Texas boys bitching for ACL b/c it looks like they will have the same headliners haha.

  12. Incubus is also on the bill.

  13. What? WEEN? I’m so in.
