Check Out: Green Day’s “Know Your Enemy”
It’s been hyped for two weeks now, and they’ve teased us with 90-sec clips, but finally Green Day has unveiled its new single, “Know Your Enemy.” With ’60s throwback guitars, a rhythm that screams of Pete Townshend’s work, and some pace drumming by TrĂ© Cool, this new single takes a bite out of your head and then some. It’s a quick and easy fix, albeit somewhat redundant (”Do you know your enemy?”, etc.), but it’s catchy as hell and with any first single, it’s likely to churn the already spinning buzz. If anything, it’ll make you move a hell of a lot more than its recently leaked titular track.
The spotlight is shining on the California trio this week, as they continue to surprise fans with exclusive secret shows (that sport jaw dropping set lists), and boatloads of material (lyrics anyone?) to pore over until the May 15th release of their eighth studio effort, 21st Century Breakdown. Stay tuned for the accompanying video, which makes its debut later this afternoon, and for those looking to download the single, it’s currently available on iTunes.
Can we start begging for tour dates yet? Yes, yes, yes.

most boring song/album of their entire career, learn some new chords Billy!!!!!!! and to mitch, although they did stel the song name, its a compleeeeetly different song besides when he say know your enemy, rage will forever musically wreck green day.
Oh and by the way anyone who says that rage is gay should stop listening to music because you obviously have no idea what your talking about.
Trust me I love old green day and I fucking love Rage, but the fact that green day could’nt be creative enough to come up with a song name that is original and lyrics that are there own is complete bullshit. It’s exsactly what ruins a bands rep. and makes them look fake. How could you steel a song name from a rock band that was in the same time frame as you and then use there lyrics. They sold out and this proves it nof said bitches. And Ill drop the style clearly Know your enemy! - RAGE
rage against the machine are gay
Dear Mitch:
Not everyone is gay for Rage Against the Machine. This is not a big deal. Trust me.
Wow that was boring. I like how the guy from Rolling Stone who went to their last show said the new album is their best. Sounds like he lied to me.
Mitch, your argument makes little to no sense.
Dan,
Its not just another song…its RAGE AGAINT THE F***ING MACHINE we are talking about! That was a dumb move on the part of Green Day…I guarantee you that I am not the only person thinking this! Besides the song in itself (Green day one of course) is shit…nothing new, repetitive, and boring…
Who cares if its the same name as some other song? Thats a dumb complaint to have.
Agree with Mitch, wasn’t a great idea to name the song know your enemy, especially with it being sub par to begin with. I listened to it a few times, just can’t get into it. Too repetitive and just bland
I think naming a song Know Your Enemy after Rage Against the Machine nade an unbelievable song of the same name 17 years earlier…was a dumb move…I cant take this song seriously
Yeah That Bruce Springsteen reference is a bit much. I’ve been listening to Green Day since 95 and yeah… this isnt all too bad. Not great. But not bad.
This is pretty repetitive… not very good… but maybe the full quality album version will have enough juevos to knock me on my ass and make me not care. I’m interested to see how it sounds on the radio.
This sounds like Bruce Springsteen crossed with a middle aged, and equally worn out, All-American Rejects.>>>
I don’t really hear that at all, especially the Springsteen reference, but okay.
Even when no one thought it possible… Green Day has managed to produce an even BLANDER version of itself. This sounds like Bruce Springsteen crossed with a middle aged, and equally worn out, All-American Rejects.
eh, pretty forgettable. Hopefully this cd turns out more like dookie than american idiot, can’t really tell at the moment.
