Prayers are answered, Creed returns…

Prayers are answered, Creed returns…

To borrow from Jake and Elwood Blues, “The Lord works in mysterious ways.” That’s certainly one way of explaining things lately. Between the swine flu and that idiot octuplet woman, there’s hardly enough room to stomach an upcoming Creed reunion, but that’s exactly what’s happening. Yes, that’s right. Scott Stapp and Mark Tremonti are working together again, and while this may seem surprising and rather unfortunate to Alter Bridge fans, the two sound pretty, pretty…pretty good. So much so that they’ll be hitting the road late this summer with a new album to kick around, too.

“I wouldn’t call it a reunion,” says singer Scott Stapp. “It’s a renewing and a rebirth. I missed my boys and wanted to create music with them again. We’re all thrilled to have a second chance to make a first impression.”

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. After all, as we reported last December, Stapp and Tremonti were already flirting with the idea of putting the band back together. They weren’t kidding, apparently, as they’re not the only ones on board. Drummer Scott Phillips and original bassist Brian Marshall, who left the band in 2000, will be tagging along, too.

“We exchanged family pictures and within 20 minutes we were jamming on acoustic guitars and talking about new songs,” Stapp explained, touching base on both writing and recording. The two have contacted several producers already, including both Brendan O’Brien and Bob Rock. “We want to put ourselves around the best and have them bring out the best in us and challenge us as artists.”

Fans shouldn’t have to wait too long. Already, the four have been demo’ing songs, six in all so far, and they plan on recording in Nashville. The likely first single is “Full Circle”, a song which Stapp and the band seem positive about. “We’ve come full circle and it’s a great place to be. The goal is [to] release the first single before the tour and have the album come out during the tour or right after.”

Tour dates are already set, starting August 6th in Pittsburgh, PA and lasting until October 14th in Nashville, TN. Say what you will, but with forty-million albums sold, there’s no telling what sort of success they’ll find again. Let’s just hope their upcoming set lists include this little number…

  1. Scott Stapp is not Jesus or a second Jesus, those comments are pathetic. He is a very very good singer! And the lirics are right on! I wish more bands would get away from dark sided messages.

  2. Creed is great! At least there music is uplifting and not doom and gloom! Sounds like all the negitive things being said is about evil hearted jealousy!

  3. Thanks for posting this! With so much bad news being posted it’s good to see some positivity!!!! Everyone wants to hate. yeah, I’d like to see them go triple DIAMOND, sell 35 millions records, right? exactly.

This is the BEST news I’ve ever heard…in my entire life. The one band that actually improved people’s lives by giving them a second Christ to look up to and give true hope that life can be worth living! Scott Stapp will be remembered as the songwriter of our generation, not to mention easily the best SHOW of our Millenia! Even his National Anthem soars skyscraper-height over Aretha’s inaugural rendition! I love Aretha, who doesn’t, but Scott dominates… and we should bestow upon him the honor and rock-god glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

    Officially,
    Wicked Celtics

  4. Even Jesus Hates Creed !

  5. yeah i agree the unchecked agression is over the top but people for some reason get high and mighty that if it isn’t music they like then they should just fall off the earth because they aren’t radiohead or tool. keep up the good work though sir.

  6. Actually, the guy can play the guitar. His talents are definitely not really showcased much with Nickelback.. but I have seen him jam and he knows his way around a guitar.

The bigger problem with my faux-statement would probably be the drug use comment. I don’t think Kroeger has given that up yet..

  7. millax…your similar arguments are lost with this statement, “At least they had variety and one hell of a guitarist.” Something Nickelback will never have.

    Hilarious though, and touche.

  8. Hmm..

I think it’s rather typical and cliche to pick on this band. At this point, I don’t see the criticism really. Sure All The Right Reasons was beyond lame with songs like “Photograph” and even “Savin Me”, but they obviously hit the right audience, and while most of their early work can be written off as Pearl Jam-knock off work…it’s still good. The same argument could be said of STP a la Pearl Jam, Green Day a la Operation Ivy, etc. I just think it’s rather expected to slam this band, but there’s no real reasoning behind it.

To be honest, these guys are miles ahead of Creed, Saliva, Puddle of Mudd, etc. At least they had variety and one hell of a guitarist. Yes, I said it, Peake is a great guitarist and some of his writing on their earlier work, specifically “Leader of Men”, was actually really well done — and not to mention, Kroeger’s vocals were sound, too.

I’m not a huge fan, I’m not even really a fan, but I don’t really get the negative criticism. I actually feel bad for Kroeger. It’s obvious he had a lot of “demons” (yes, I can hear all the references to his drug use now), but if he worked ‘em out, why shouldn’t he enjoy what makes him tick and what he loves most?

In the end, you don’t have to listen to it. The 40 million others will, instead.

    That’s my two cents.

  9. Let’s go there…Let’s ask can we stay…

    Can you take me higher..
To a place where blind men see…

    ——————————————

God, how do I know that? It kinda scares me that I know that lyric. Kinda like how I know all the characters on Friends, even though I never watched an episode. Scott Stapp is in my head…

    mm

  10. Oh, I understand that, and that’s fine. But, the unchecked aggression still alludes me.

  11. michael i usually like what you write but you don’t have to stick up for every band in the world. scott stapp is an asshole and this band is terrible. sure some people like them and they attract a christian rock fan base which could possibly one of the biggest draws out there which is totally fine, not my thing but that’s me. as you said though you’re not even a fan so you don’t have to stick up for everyone that makes music.

  12. Real music fans want to puke when they hear this nonsense.>>

The same ones who read about ‘em?

  13. This is terrible news. The alternative radio station always plays this diarrhea. Keep your two cents because nobody cares how much you love creed. Real music fans want to puke when they hear this nonsense. This band is a brain fart.

  14. I think it’s rather typical and cliche to pick on this band. At this point, I don’t see the criticism really. Sure Human Clay was beyond lame with songs like “With Arms Wide Open” and even “Higher”, but they obviously hit the right audience, and while most of their early work can be written off as Pearl Jam-knock off work…it’s still good. The same argument could be said of STP a la Pearl Jam, Green Day a la Operation Ivy, etc. I just think it’s rather expected to slam this band, but there’s no real reasoning behind it.

Yes, I said it, Tremonti is a great guitarist and some of his writing on their later work, specifically “One Last Breath”, was actually really well done — and not to mention, Stapp’s vocals were sound, too.

I’m not a huge fan, I’m not even really a fan, but I don’t really get the negative criticism. I actually feel bad for Stapp. It’s obvious he had a lot of “demons” (yes, I can hear all the references to his Christianity now), but if he worked ‘em out, why shouldn’t he enjoy what makes him tick and what he loves most?

  15. If we ignore Creed, will they go away?

  16. Jet didn’t break up, but they should have…….

    http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/9464-shine-on/

  17. How the FUCK can you put Jet into that sentence? They never even broke up…how bout add No Doubt or Blink 182 to that sentence or House of Pain for that matter..

  18. boooooo

  19. Christ! First Limp Bizkit, then Jet, now this! Why can’t these bands just stay away?!

  20. [...] became the radio staple that us former nu-metal fans cringed at upon hearing. Now with a 10-week reunion tour in their summer plans, Creed’s returning member and resident big mouth Scott Stapp dishes out [...]

  21. [...] flashbacks to high school are just that, simple delusions and deja vu. We could at least fathom Creed taking a swing at reuniting because Scott Stapp finally realized he is not Jesus. But between the Blink 182 green screen fiasco, Limp Bizkit’s European descent, and No [...]
