Perhaps it’s only appropriate that in the same month that the music world remembers 15 years without Kurt Cobain, the band which proved to produce Sub Pop’s second best selling album, behind only Nirvana’s Bleach, is reportedly preparing a comeback. According to the always reliable Travis Hays at Ear Candy, the original lineup of Sunny Day Real Estate is currently rehearsing for what is a planned reunion tour.

If the reunion were indeed to come to fruition, it would mark the first time that the Seattle post grunge quartet of Jeremy Enigk, Nate Mendel, William Goldsmith, and Dan Hoerner will have performed together since 1995. That year, the group disband following the release, with Goldsmith and Mendel leaving to join the Foo Fighters, while Enigk went on to see a fairly successful solo career.

Between 1992 and 1995, Sunny Day Real Estate would see great success, releasing two acclaimed studio album, including Diary, which would go on to be Sub Pop’s second best selling album ever, and earning notoriety as the “fathers” of the emo genre. In 1998, the band resurfaced with Jeff Palmer replacing Mendel on bass and would experience moderate success, however thanks to some inner conflict among members and problems with Time Bomb Recordings, which the band signed with in 2000, Sunny Day Real Estate again disbanded in 2001.

Of course, before any reunion comes about, Enigk must tend to the release of his newest solo album, OK Bear, which is due for release on May 12th.
