Now technically reunited band #1 hasn’t in fact gone away, but there will be a reunion of some sort in the coming months. The Jayhawks are reuniting their mid-90s lineup for a pair of summer shows, Billboard.com reports, which will mark the first time the outfit’s two principal members, Gary Louris and Mark Olson, will play together under The Jayhawks banner in the U.S. in over a decade – Olson departed the band following its critically acclaimed 1995 album Tomorrow the Green Grass. The duo has reunited intermittently in recent years, but it wasn’t until last year that Olson joined Louris and other Tomorrow the Green Grass members Tim O’Reagan, Karen Grotberg and Marc Perlman for a Jayhawks one-off at Spain’s Azkena Rock Festival. The group will look to do the same in the U.S. this summer when it headlines the Basilica Block Party in
Minneapolis on July 10th. An appearance at this year’s Primavera Sound is also in the fold.
The other band at hand did go away completely, and for a long time, but like The Jayhawks, are now ready to make its return. The legendary Detroit garage rock trio better known as The Gories have announced plans for a series of summer tour dates with the Oblivians – another group which is reuniting. The tour, which will include three U.S. dates, along with quick European tour, will mark the band’s first performances in some 17 years.
