It’s only a week or so away, but the Silversun Pickups are just about ready to unleash its second full-length effort, Swoon. Alternative enthusiasts craving for nail biting riffs and a slew of angsty verses should be watering at the mouths by now. After all, nearly three years have passed since “Lazy Eye”, and its corresponding album Carnavas, hit the airwaves with catchy melodies and distorted whirs that even Billy Corgan wishes he could still carve up. That being said, the band’s turning the hype machine on, and it starts with a music video. How ’90s of them!

“I’m waiting and fading and floating away,” vocalist Brian Aubert sings on “Panic Switch”, the current and first single off of Swoon. The lyrics are rather fitting here as the Los Angeles quartet disappear and reappear between erratic flashes, all of which is spliced with stock performance footage. It’s nothing to get all dazzled over. It’s actually very paint-by-numbers, in terms of performance videos, complete with close ups, screen adjustments, and color changes. They may capitalize on the riffs of former Smashing Pumpkins numbers, but they’ve yet to tackle the astronomically amazing videos the Chicago quartet once conjured up.

Well, they have plenty of opportunities ahead with the new album, which is due out April 14th.
