WTF Alert! Glastonbury afraid of Swine Flu?

By Alex Young on May 7th, 2009 in Festival News/Rumor, News

Last I checked, the whole swine flu craze has kind of died down. So it came a bit of surprise that one of the world’s biggest festivals is actually considering canceling its 2009 edition if things get worse.

Per The Guardian:

Glastonbury festival organisers have revealed that the recent outbreak of swine flu may result in the cancellation of the festival should the virus reach the level of a pandemic. A spokesman for the festival confirmed that emergency talks are being held to discuss the best way to manage the situation should the outbreak worsen ahead of the 137,500-capacity event in June. The festival also confirmed it was responding to the concerns of ticket holders who had contacted them about the potential impact on the event should the virus spread.

No word on whether any of the other trillion world music festivals are considering similiar actions.

  • Eh, the Glastonbury organizers have always seemed to be overly paranoid. Didn’t they cancel their fest after the Roskilde incident to review safety practices?

  • As an early swine flu survivor, I can tell you that as much as it sucks, these people need to learn the facts. Canceling Glastonbury would cost a ridiculous amount of money. I still don’t get why so many schools have shut down for two weeks.
