The Zutons survive being dropped from Deltasonic

Have you heard of the psychedelic indie-poppers, The Zutons, who have been lighting up European festivals since they hit the big time with their ’06 single “Valerie” (covered by both Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson)? If you have, I’m sure you’ll be surprised to hear that they were dropped from their label, Deltasonic, where The Zutons were arguably the most recognized artist. If you haven’t, let me be the one to say you should be picking your jaw up off the keyboard. “Maybe it’s just our time to fall out of favor, but we’ll just keep gigging. That’s what we love doing the most,” said lead singer Dave McCabe about the split.

Not to worry though, the Liverpool five-piece isn’t letting a little label trouble get in the way of touring throughout the summer at some of Europe’s hottest festivals, including Leicester’s Summer Sundae Weekender where they’ll be headlining. As for some new material? The Zutons are also on top of that as well. According to saxophonist Abi Harding, “We’re writing a new album at the moment…now we’re just concentrating on writing.” There’s no album title or release date but rest assured, you’ll be hearing from The Zutons in the near future.

  1. I saw them opening for Gomez in Anaheim in ‘06 and at Coachella in ‘07 (think I got the years right). They’re a fun live band and actually really like their albums as well. Good to see they’re coming back around.

  2. I remember the song “Zuton Fever” but that’s about it. I hate to see bands fall by the wayside, but such is life.
