Morrissey looks forward to happier times
May wasn’t really a good month for Morrissey. For one, he turned 50, and while that made for a wicked awesome compilation project, I’ve never met anyone who was happy being that age. Then, there was that throat illness that scrapped a slew of recent shows. Finally, and most tragically, “some passable creature is using [his] name and sending sharply chiseled replies to people via Twitter, MySpace and Facebook.”
But May is over, and not surprisingly, Moz is celebrating the new month with a some splendid news. Not only is the throat illness now behind him - his European tour will pick up this Friday in Luxembourg, but the former Smiths frontman turned solo extradionaire is now gearing up for a new release. In October, Morrissey will release Swords, a 18-track b-sides compilation album via Polydor Records. Specifics are still forthcoming, but in a note on his website, the singer/songwriter noted the release will consist of singles from his last three albums, which means stuff from this year’s Years of Refusal will probably be included.
No word on whether that passable creature using [his] name and sending sharply chiseled replies to people via Twitter, MySpace and Facebook has been slained, but Morrissey would like everyone know, it’s not him. “This person is not me,” he wrote in the same note. “Not enough happens in my life that I would wish to share it with others. I do not scan these sites – or whatever they are - so I can only hope that whoever is posing as me is at least worth talking to. Beware of false imitations.”
So, there.
