U2 webslings to Broadway
Comic books are moving into uncharted territory. Only 10 years ago, the prospect of Marvel and DC running rival film studios was preposterous, but today U2 opened up about the upcoming Broadway production, Spider Man: Turn Off The Dark.
Rolling Stone interviewed Bono and the Edge on their role in the project; the duo wrote the music and lyrics for the production, which previews on January 16, 2010, and premieres on February 18, 2010. According to the interview, the duo wanted, “to mess with all these aspects of pop culture, put them in a blender and see what comes out on the other end.
The production’s official website promises that the show will be a “circus rock n’roll drama,” which should by all means be taken with a grain of salt. Quotes like that could easily be translated to simply, a train-wreck in the making.
Regardless of the end result, tickets for the show go on-sale from June 24 (for American Express customers) to September 12. Despite the time frame, casting details have yet to be confirmed.
