Lollapalooza unveils 2009 schedule

Lollapalooza unveils 2009 schedule

With Bonnaroo out of the way, the next major festival on the agenda is none other than Mr. Farrell’s Lollapalooza. Today, the Chicago based festival, which is scheduled to take place between August 7th and 9th in Grant Park, made sure you knew that with the release of its 2009 schedule.

So, what’s it looks like? Well, there sure are a lot of conflicts: Kings of Leon vs. Depeche Mode (ouch!). The Decemberists vs. Peter Bjorn & John (double ouch!) In the battle of the douchebags, Asher Roth vs. Crystal Castles (triple ouch!). And. that’s just Friday.

Saturday sees Tool vs. Beastie Boys, with the latter featuring TV on the Radio, Arctic Monkeys, Los Campesinos! and Delta Spirit as lead-ins (groovy!). Sunday has, as expected, Lou Reed into Jane’s Addiction and Snoop into The Killers (LOL).

Check out the whole thing for yourself via Lollapalooza.com. Celebrate and/or bitch below.

  1. Band of Horses vs. Silversun Pickups. Wow. That’s just stupid.

  2. agree with AJ, I’m doing the same thing

  3. Ah. Very conflicting for me. Andrew Bird vs. Of Montreal, The Raveonettes vs. Dan Deacon, and Neko Case vs. Vampire Weekend seem to be the hardest decisions.

  4. Saturday is pretty bad but I’m happy with the rest of the schedule. Will pretty much be parked on the north side of the park Friday and Sunday.

  5. Looks like I’ll be checking out Deadmau5 on Sunday night.

  6. Rise Against into Tool, Johnny J was correct.

  7. Looks like I’ll be going home early on Sunday as the Killers have never impressed me live and I just saw Jane’s on the NINJA tour and they were terrible. Guess I might not have to take Monday off after all. And even though Crystal Castles have acted douchey lately, they were really good a Bonnaroo on Friday. Finally, if you’re going for Animal Collective, I would suggest waiting until they’re somewhere else (an aftershow would be awesome). I watched their set at Bonnaroo and while it was okay, it was nowhere near as good in the day without the light show as it was at Pitchfork in the night with the light show last year.

  8. I can’t believe there isn’t one group i want to see before 5pm on all three days. looks like i can sleep in and maybe hit a aftershow or two.

  9. Fuck. Now I have to figure out whether it’s worth 80 dollars to see Animal Collective. If they’d put one of the other four or so good bands on the same day I would’ve jumped at it, but seriously.

  10. thank god for aftershows

  11. Outstanding times for all the people I want to see. Except a decision on seeing The Gaslight Anthem or White Lies (who I’ve seen)- that’s the only issue. Hoot!

  12. Aftershows should be announced sometime next month.

  13. I cant believe they scheduled Band of Horses vs Silversun Pickups…that is just awful. And Airborne Toxic Event vs Kaiser Chiefs is not an easy choice either

  14. Does anyone know when the aftershows will be announced?

  15. Band of Horses Vs. Silversun Pickups, and all the sweet DJ’s are the same time as headliners, ouch

  16. kings of leon vs. depeche mode is a no brainer.
    dm wins hands down.

  17. Of the four major ones: Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lolla and ACL. But your point is well taken.

  18. I would say that Rothbury is the next major festival(and the best one)

  19. On a personal note, I got to say, this schedule works wonders for me. No conflicts at all on Friday and Saturday. The only actual one for the weekend is Lou Reed vs. Deerhunter, and I guess that depends on how far I want to walk by then.
