Beck goes the cover route
Now, here’s something that goes under the fucking awesome category: The man, the myth, the legend better known as Beck will reportedly begin recording and releasing covers for free on the web. At least that’s what Pitchfork reports will be among the new offerings when the acclaimed singer/songwriter launches a brand new website in the coming months. Basically, as part of the new beck.com, there will be something called the “Record Club,” which will see Beck, along with some friends, such as Devendra Banhart, MGMT, Jamie Lidell and producer Nigel Godrich, record an entire album of covers in one day to post online. Per Pitchfork:
For the purposes of scrappy immediacy, nobody will rehearse or arrange anything beforehand.
After that day of furious recording, Beck will slowly let the record out into the world via his website (as well as the websites of the other musicians involved), uploading a new song once a week.
The Velvet Underground and Nico, aka the debut full-length of The Velvet Underground, will reportedly be the first record tackled.
Pardon us while we run to the grocery store, pick up $11 of champagne, and celebrate like we’re in da club with PAriS! Yeah, we’re that excited!

I thought Beck was going to retire after Modern Guilt and the fucking awesome United Palace shows.
But hey, I’m not complaining, this sounds awesome.
this is awesome. also how come no one has mentioned anything about the jon spencer blues explosion getting back together last night?
now this is freaking cool…
