Phish festival set for Halloween weekend at the same place they hold Coachella?
A couple months back rumors popped that Phish would look to cap off this year’s reunion with its very own end-of-summer music festival in Texas. Ultimately, however, they proved to be nothing more than an internet hoax. Fast forward to today, and we find ourselves dealing with a batch of similar rumors, only this time they put the the festival on Halloween weekend in Indio, California, at the same spot that Coachella takes place each and every spring.
Actually, as it stands now, the three-day Halloween festival isn’t actually rumor — Phish has already confirmed the plans on its website. In fact, the only unknown is where the event will be going down, and that’s where the speculation of Indio, California comes in. Yes, according to rumors a floating on the world wide web, the Phish festival will take place at Empire Polo Club, the same place where the Coachella and Stage Coach Music Festivals are held every year.
Since, as Hidden Track explains, Halloween and Phish are as much of a match as PB&J — “Starting on October 31, 1994, Phish concerts on Halloween were three set affairs in which the band would don a ‘musical costume’ in the second set by performing a classic album by another artist. The group played The Beatles’ White Album in 1994, Quadrophenia by The Who in 1995, Remain In Light by the Talking Heads in 1996 and Loaded by the Velvet Underground in 1998″ — it’d probably be privy of you to stay tuned…

Well it has been announced that it is in fact here in
Indio, Ca at the Empire Polo Grounds where we have had Coachella Fest and Stagecoach Fest for many years. I live
only a few blocks from the festival, no problems there,
Indio Police Dept, with the help of surrounding sherriff and
police force have done an excellent job on traffic, and
maintaining peace and unity among all who attend. There
is a major airport, Palm Springs International, and if not
the one you want, then you can fly into Ontario Airpot and take a schuttle into the festival. It is alot cheaper that way.
If you come by bus, which many Coachella Festival goers do,
there are plenty of taxi’s there to give you a ride to the
festival. There are spaces to rent there at the polo grounds
to stay the week-end, If you have not reserved a room for that
week-end, it might be too late but try Super 8 motel 760-342-
0264 they are just 1 mile or 2 from the event. Or go on the
http://www.indiochamber.org where there is a list of hotels, motels
etc. to help you on your visit.

I can’t listen to this and that if you think smart it has to be warm and on east coast were alot more loyal phans will be.
I really hope its not Indio, then all this effort tracking the map would’ve been a big waste of time… it obviously didn’t mean anything if its in CA.
Logic says Florida, they have the infrastructure to fly everyone in and the weather there after hurricane season is perfect (although, officially hurricane season lasts until November, its extremely rare for a hurricane to strike the US after October 20th or so).
Everyone keeps pointing to the New Years shows… but are those definate? Who’s to say they don’t play MSG on New Years.
Finally, there has GOT to be one last Phish show at the Spectrum in Philly. It MUST happen, that venue means too much to Trey and to the fans in Philly to not make that happen (http://www.rememberthespectrum.com/100/trey.asp). They’ve announced Pearl Jam as the very last concert there on 10/30, so look for an October date in Philly.

Sean, The Carrier Dome already has multiple events booked there all three of the days so I do not think thats an option.

1. (florida) phish rep said indio fell threw and there going to FL as there back up plan or somthing..
2.(texas) that the farm in texas has confrimed that a band with a large fan base was looking to throw a festival.
3. (vegas) the viking hat fishman is wearing was worn on on the 98′ tour; fishman got that hat at the vegas halloween show.
4. (arizona) theres an old air base there called ‘date’land air base and this festival is currently under the name “save the date”.. i think its save the date souly for the fact they obly gave us the dates of the show.
5. (california) even though california is gone off the map people still choose to say its for sure going to happen there..?
It could be at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY because Fish is from Jamesville just outside the city of Syracuse. The Carrier Dome was a close 2nd to having it at Big Cyrpus for NYE. The last two clues have me thinking and hoping for it to be at the Dome. The top of the dome looks like a hot air balloon and Fish’s face was on the pinball. And, of course, New York is still in the running.
Wow! New and intersting update to the website this morning. I hope they announce soon so people can begin making whatever travel arrangements are needed. So much fun trying to piece clues together as to where they’re going to do these Halloween weekend shows. There’s a thousand ways to spin where they’ll go. I’m quite happy there is going to be a three day celebration…wherever it is. My feeling is this festival will be somewhere warm and perhaps outdoors. I’ve been to IT, Vegoose, Coventry, Coachella, and Big Cypress sites for festivals and they are all good places to hold large events. Anywhere has its advantages and challenges - this goes for both people producing the event and attendees. You just do the best that you can! And whether they choose somewhere familiar or someplace new, it will be fun either way. I’m just appreciative they are giving us not one show on Halloween, but three days of music!

PHISH halloween will be in INDIO!!! Zoom your internet page to 200 % and CA is just hovering above the map. It will drop back down. I live in Palm Desert 10 minutes away from Indio and the sheriffs here already had a meeting confirming the event because they are going to bring in outside law enforcement.
My monies on Georgia. I’m in the know that they have some land that has been on reserve for going on two years now. But really people, Cali? Gimme a break. Phish is an East coast band, always has been. The majority of the people in the country live on the East Coast, that would just be bad business. Think about it.

I am originally from PA, now living in Las Vegas. Phish has always given more time to the east coast folks. Every festival they have ever had has been on the east coast. You guys get New Years most years at MSG and you got hampton this year along with the majority of the summer tour including Bonnaroo. How about we let the west coast get a little love from a great band and what will prove to be a fantastic festival. I would love to see it in Vegas since we lost Vegoose but i will be happy no matter where it is, just glad to see the boys back and seemingly happy.

There is no way it will be “Thriller” There has been way too much media coverage of Michael Jackson since his death, and it wont be stopping anytime soon. By the time Halloween comes around you wont even want to even hear Michael Jackson’s name. Although it would be cool hearing his thriller album live without being amongst all the diehard Michael Jackson nutjob fans.
Obviously its going to be a southern state where the climate allows a Halloween festival to happen without cold weather. Florida, California are the most available.

I think its going to be Florida, there has never been a festival out west, and to start after being away so many years would be a snub to the east coast kids who make up the majority of their fan base.
I say Florida with an album cover most likely of thriller my Michael Jackson, given his death and Halloween it only makes complete sense. And who doesn’t like thriller?

At that time of the year, it pretty much leaves only a few places to play. The weather in Las Vegas and Indio at that time of the year is very comfortable, and both places have put on festivals in the past. We’ll see. Love the teasers.
Rumors, rumors everywhere nor any truth to tell . . . just one thought: Phish will not play any place where it is potentially very cold at night, because even with space heaters on stage, they are not able to keep their fingers warm enough to perform many of their difficult songs properly. And they are surely going to play sweet, difficult music at these shows, along with more excellent jamming. So that leaves So Cal, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Florida (but rumor has it NYE run is Miami again :)), georgia, etc. Not many places actually, and definitely not the midwest/northeast/northwest. Where ever it is, it will be awesome and I will be there! I’ve only missed three shows since 07-27-03 and this last tour got super hott at the end. . . looking for more of the same in Red Rocks and onwards . . . sober, happy and jamming - that’s my kinda Phish! Dude california is the biggest police state ever. Ive lived in Colorado, so cal texas and louisiana. The cops are way less organized in texas that in cali. They may be bigger dicks in texas but at least they dont have paramilitary capabilities. Further, so cal is way more conservative than austin and surronding areas.

Has anyone considered Vermont as a possibility? Something to think about as Coventry was so incredibly rough/tough physically and emotionally for so many people…It would be great to see the home state get a reprise.

The more I read about the Indio location, the more scared I get that it’ll actually be there. All the Coachella rules stem from the fact that it’s community owned and in the middle of town…If it’s in Indio it will be more like a typical 3 night stand (still fun but short of a festie)…It’s great to see many sets, crazy gimmicks, rare musical treats, NOT have to drive!!!, party as desired, not racing around after each night finding your buddies so you can sit in traffic and start your 10 hour drive to the next venue. Indio will still have some of the elements but not all…what will certainly be weird is that all the other festies, flying wasn’t much of an option b/c they were in the middle of nowhere…This will likely be 40k flying/renting cars…makes it pretty tough to go fully prepared. It’ll be a good time anyway you look at it.
