Watch: The Gaslight Anthem (feat. Bruce Springsteen) - “The 59 Sound” (Live at Glastonbury)
Sure, The Boss’s guest appearance during The Gaslight Anthem’s set at Glastonbury last weekend wasn’t much more than some strumming and singing along(?) while the band performed “The 59 Sound”. But there was just something about Brian Fallon’s introduction — “Do you hear something? What’s the sound like? I hear like the waves of my hometown… Is somebody back there?” — and the resulting crowd reaction that makes the video below worthwhile.
Plus, it provides further evidence on just how The Gaslight Anthem probably owes its life to Bruce…

wow shite on shite sandwich.
Technically flawed but emotionally perfect. Who cares that Bruce was winging it (and blowing some of the lyrics). I got chills when he strolled out onto the stage.
I just saw Anthem at the Stone pony in Asbury Park a few weeks ago - with Springsteen’s spirit rattling around the place. These guys are true songsmiths. The consistency of their “59 Sound” LP is quite impressive. Barely an extended solo to be found … just a tremendous amount of well conceived and executed writing.
An one more thing … I love the “unity” in this band. Notice how their album is credited … “All songs written and performed by The Gaslight Anthem” … no individual credit taken by anyone.
Keep it coming guys!

What total suckage.
I’m so glad Glastonbury allowed some of these videos to be seen in the US!
WOW!!! been following bruce since i saw him with his first band in the late 60’s. now i’ll be following gaslight anthem. what an amazing band and FANTASTIC video. thanks to you for posting this and to bruce for opening us “oldsters” up to new music.
Good one Dan.
maybe brian fallon keeps him in a cage on their tour bus. we can only hope.
Would be awesome at Lolla but Bruce isn’t playing that festival so my guess is he won’t be showing up to do one song.
fuckin awesome. if this happens at lolla this year ill flip.
I love it! I’m a fan of both bands and watching that video just shows how much love for both artists is out there.
Best part is Bruce messes up some of the few words he sang but the sheer enjoyment everyone on stage and in the crowd is so worth it.
