Electric Daisy Carnival ‘09 biggest U.S. festival ever?

Q: How does one become the largest single day festival in the United States of America?

A: Round up a slew of high-profile electro-friendly acts, such as Paul Oakenfold, Infected Mushroom, Simian Mobile Disco, Thievery Corporation and The Crystal Method and have them perform at Los Angeles’ Memorial Coliseum & Exposition Park on the last weekend of June.

Well, that’s all this year’s Electric Daisy Carnival had to do to draw 45,000 ravers/festival goers this past  Friday and a record setting 90,000 on Saturday (via URB Magazine). If the total holds true, apparently it has yet to be officially confirmed, day two of EDC ‘09 will go down as the most attended single day festival in the history of United States music festival — Lollapalooza ‘08 is believed to be the current holder with a total attendance of 225,000, resulting in a 75k single day number.

Oh, the power of the rave…

  • Most of the other big events either had free tickets or no admission standard, making them impossible to count. At the DEM a few years back they estimated over a million, yet in reality over had a little over 100k…..So as great as an estimate can be, having proof of 90,000 tickets being sold is much more impressive then that Garth Brooks Time Square “fact.”

    EDC was epic, congrats Insomniac

  • is was the most incredible event of my life. who cares if it was beyond crowded, it was worth it. that many people dancing and just having an amazing time is a true show of LA’s pride and most of all LOVE. and if you want to complain about fence jumping (which i did, and was fun) and the crowds than dont go!, its was a blast and thats the point is to go crazy and have fun.

BENASSI WAS EPIC!! well worth the wait from technical difficulties

  • Well the record breaking 90,000 people on Saturday caused a shitload of problems. People jumping fences, not allowed into the main stage area, people getting tackled, breaking arms and ankles. What the fuck, it was so ridiculously crowded. It took me 2 hours to get from the entrance of the main stage to the actual dance floor.

Coachella caps the tickets at 60,000 because they care about the well-being of their attendees. Insomniac (company that puts on EDC) obviously only cares about the $ and the records.

  • No matter what, 100 or 90000 our vibe is felt across whatever location. Just about anywhere in the world where Electronic music is played we are one! Trying to explain this to some who have never attened it’s like explaning the color red to a blind person.

  • It was the largest electronic music festival. NOT the largest concert. I was there and the number (45000 friday and 90000 sat) are in fact pretty accurate. Don’t hate congradulate. Why does everything have to be a pissing contest! geez
