Picking up where his 2005 effort, The Alternative to Love, left off, My Old, Familiar Friend continues Benson’s quest in self discovery. With songs “Feel Like Taking You Home”, “Garbage Day” and upcoming single “A Whole Lot Better”, the songwriter by day and bluesman by night cuts into some timeless melodies, complete with hand-claps, raw guitar work, and seductive stortytelling.
Produced by Gil Norton (Pixies, Foo Fighters) and mixed by Dave Sardy (LCD Soundsystem), Friend took Benson to both London and Nashville, where he recorded the album in parts, all resulting in an 11-track LP. The cool angle to it all? This marks the first album post-Raconteurs, so for fans of his solo work, expect some surprises in both style and substance.
End the summer season wisely with a Friend on August 18th via ATO Records.
