Beastie Boys’ MCA has cancer; band cancels festival appearances, pushes back album release
In a video posted on the band’s official website earlier today, Adam “MCA” Yauch of the Beastie Boys revealed that he has been diagnosed as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. Fortunately, because it was caught early, doctors believe it is very treatable, though Yauch will need surgery and several weeks of additional treatment.
As a result, the Beastie Boys have canceled all upcoming concert appearances, including scheduled headlining spots at Lollapalooza, All Points West and the Austin City Limits Festival. Furthermore, the group has decided to push back the release of its forthcoming record, Hot Sauce Committee Part 1.
More as it becomes available.
We’d like to wish Yauch the speediest of recoveries. He is in our thoughts.

They should get Kasabian. Their new record is great and they’re amazing live.
Pearl Jam for Osheaga
For the last time, Pearl Jam is impossible for Lolla - They’re playing Virgin Fest Alberta in Calgary that same day. Has anyone thought of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs? (They play Toronto on the 5th and 6th but then have a big gap before going to Europe)…
basement jaxx said they would only tour the U.S. if people over here liked the new record, which is their way of saying they probably wont. justice would be cool to see, but they wouldnt headline, i would like them to though XD
um anyone who thinks Justice is an appropriate substitute for the B. Boys is… well, slightly retarded.
Needs to be a electronic act, Justice, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim.
a lot of people are saying Pearl Jam for APW, i dont know about lolla though. i personally hope Jay-Z get APW and someone else other than PJ gets the lolla slot. i dont really like PJ
I hope it’s going to be The Pixies, Oasis or Pearl Jam
All the best to Adam. Mars Volta needs to take these dates
Hope the best for adam.
I hope a good replacement that would be between:
1. Blur.
2. Pixies (i know, breeders are on tour but lolla is lolla)
3. The chemical brothers.
4. Muse (perfect!)
5. Massive attack (who knows…..)
Please DON’T:
Jay Z
EMINEM
I’d klike to see Muse, Chemical Brothers or Franz Ferdinand taking the Beasties’ place.
But for serious, hasn’t Nas been touring with Ben Harper? He would make sense as a replacement.
10 bucks says their lolla slot gets replaced by Blue October.
I hope Yauch gets better soon.
This is simply unfortunate. I hope everything goes as well as it can.
checkmate debaser. Well played.
does that mean there lolla after show is canceled too? i mean i would assume it would be
Ahhh, my favorite Beastie! Hope he gets better. They put on a fantastic show. Will miss them at Lolla this year!

Mike, when it’s Canada… BSS are as big as the Beasties lol.”
and don’t forget as shitty too.
Can we restart the Bjork / Tom Waits rumors for APW now?
who cares who’s headlining! hopes he gets better!
Sorry to hear about the cancer. My prayers are with you!
P.S.”Appearances” is spelled incorrectly in the headline.
This is when Rage Against the Machine steps in and fills all their festival dates
What about Outside Lands? Will they still be going there or is that show canceled as well?
Broken Social Scene are the kings in Canada for replacing the cancelled headliners. They’ve done it in Toronto when Massive Attack cancelled last minute, and another festival if i’m not mistaken.
Conor Oberst would be my first choice though but I know it’s a long shot. Is Mars Volta too much to ask?
Any quick rumors for APW CoS?
Mike, when it’s Canada… BSS are as big as the Beasties lol.
Yeah, because when I think BB replacement, I think BSS.
Great to hear it’s treatable. Wonder who will replace them at All Points West on such short notice.
Wonder who they will get to headline Osheaga then? My guess is Broken Social Scene. Hopefully they add someone soon..
Hope he gets better soon and has a speedy recovery and that clearly solves my conflict on Beastie Boys and Tool at Lolla for the time being…but that’s not the important thing!
