Check Out: Muse’s “United States of Eurasia”
Fans who used to defend U.K. trio Muse against comparisons to Radiohead can now add another fellow British act to the mix: Queen! After all, the new tune off the band’s forthcoming fifth studio album, The Resistance, swings and climbs and sounds like a Freddie Mercury-penned tune. Titled “United States of Eurasia”, the nearly four minute sweeper sports Roy Thomas Baker-like guitar production and vocals by Matt Bellamy that channel Mercury to the T.
In its parts, however, it does tag back to typical Muse renditions (think “Butterflies and Hurricanes”), but overall, it sounds like a Middle Eastern band covering some obscure Queen b-side. It’s unfortunate. It seems just like yesterday that bassist Chris Wolstenholme said, “It is more important for us to make the best album we have made to date.” If the remaining 10 tracks are anything like this, well, let’s just say they aren’t necessarily reaching for the stars anymore.
You be the judge, though…

I can say this has a HUGE Queen influence, but so what? It definitely still has the Muse kick. Just because it doesn’t contain their famous insane breakdown melodies or interludes doesn’t mean it can’t rock. It hasn’t hit me as being an amazing tune, but it’s alright. The band is still incredible, and for anyone to catch them live is a great treat.
They should be ashamed? The fuck?
They wouldn’t have released it if they weren’t pleased with it - just because it doesn’t take your fancy is a whole other issue.
Great song. So what if it sounds a bit Queen like, it is not overly Queen and Muse have always had influences and hints of them. A fun, not to be taken serious and HUGE sounding song. Looking forward to the album. A good 8/10
It is a good song. The majority (as in people with an astoundingly awful taste and knowledge of music) will likely hate it. But i can appreciate the insane brilliance of this song. Well done Muse, can’t wait til i see use live !!
First impressions can be quite deceiving. I’ve found myself liking it more the more I play it. Expectations of muse are high I know and even though it may appear disappointing for some, there is a sense that very few in modern music has produced anything anywhere near as ambitious as USOE. These days we just get all this popular trash.
this song is unbelievably awful. big disappointment for me, i used to love this band!
priceless, glad you found some people that agree with you. song rocks.
uh, yeah. this song leaves me completely confused, in a bad way.
what a total bummer.. they should be ashamed of this..
The song is cool…dont judge the album on one song
