Kings of Leon hit platinum, celebrate with even more tour dates

Last we checked, Kings of Leon were the hottest thing since Kanye’s new stage... or the Jonas Brothers, depending on your taste. So, it’s not surprising to learn that the Nashville rock band’s most recent full-length, Only By the Night, has been certified platinum by the RIAA. For those too hip to know, that means the album has sold over one million units — a might feat in today’s music world.

To celebrate this achievement, Kings of Leon have added even more North American tour dates to their upcoming itinerary. Highlighted by previously announced headlining appearances at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, the band will hit the road for a 30-plus-date swing beginning in early August. The fun runs through late October with three dates in Mexico. An appearance at this year’s Voodoo Experience is also rumored.

Along the way, they’ll also make a couple stops on the television circuit, stopping at the Today Show on July 31st and the Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien on August 24th.

Tickets for many dates are available via Ticketmaster.com.

  1. Like the Sound of these guys. They have their own sound i just reacently started Listening to them but they are still pretty kick ass. Ill be seeing their next concert close to me

  2. Just please go away from the mainstream on the next album so I don’t have to continue to defend your music to people and to myself. I have faith in you.

  3. these guys rock! great songs on all albums. can’t wait for the greatest hits!

  4. yeah, “closer” and “cold desert” were two of the best songs on the new album. congrats on going platinum in the states boys! and congrats on gaining a bigger fan base as well. most bands that make it mainstream, especially in the states, do it after only producing a sh*t ton of music that sounds like garbage. kol proves to be different, as their earlier sound was raw and great, and the newer material is cleaner and better suited for radio play (but still great). coming out with an album like “only by the night” shows the variety in their musical ability– they can go mainstream or they can be more indie, either way..they f*ckin rock. so don’t be pissy cuz they went platinum in the states with this album, just so happens it’s what the people wanted, and kol hit the mark.

  5. Caleb followill is beautiful.

  6. while i am not a fan of the music, i find it bland i think it’s great that they’ve had such success.

too bad it took north america 3 years after the UK embrced them.

  7. bland back when i saw them with strokes and regina spektor, bland now. it’s no wonder they appeal to so many people.

  8. I’m over people calling bands “sell-outs”. Those four guys definitely are NOT the type to sell-out. They are too much of badasses and know where they stand. Yes, the first two albums were more “rock” but no one seems to define that word anymore. They, themselves, said the newer album was more ‘mainstream’ and ‘easier to swallow’ so maybe that is why it is being so well accepted in the US compared to the last three.

Even if I was selling out, I would know I was gaining more fans in the process and more people need to hear their music; I see it as a win/win. They don’t seem to care that much and it’s not like the stopped performing their older songs. So get over yourself Brandon; Last time I checked you weren’t in Kings Of Leon.

& Finally, congrats to KOL- awesome album and awesome achievement.

  9. Completely agree with you ghost.. Kings are still good even though their music has changed. You can’t tell me that Closer from their new album isn’t a damn good song.

  10. Ha, yeah I have to admit, it hurts my soul a little bit when the blonde, club-going girls in my office start saying they love Kings of Leon. It’s all downhill from here.

  11. yeah so there rock is a bit more “poppy” than the last two albums, but still, their rock is still good. you should be happy they “sold out” brandon, b/c more than likely they would have shown a hell of a lot less love to the states. there much more popular in europe and they sell more records there too…

  12. You’re SO RIGHT, Brandon. God knows no REAL rock band makes music to be HEARD or expects to make a living lest they lose the respect of discerning people like yourself.

    /sarcasm

Congrats to Kings of Leon on their platinum achievement.

  13. so over this band bunch of sell outs play some rock n roll like your 1st two albums

  14. [...] to cap off a 12 month span that has included the release of the Platinum Only by the Night, tour dates across the globe, and festival appearances galore, Kings of Leon is [...]
