!K7 resurrects the DJ-KiCKS mix series with Chromeo
The year was 1995 and the underground electronic music scene was going large worldwide. Moby was a hero, mixtapes were the norm, and there were local indie shops making the music somewhat accessible. Label !K7 was looking to lead the charge by connecting with fans, and bringing the DJ mix experience from the clubs to our home CD players. The first brainchild of the DJ-KiCKS series was a techno mix by CJ Bolland that still stands the test of time.
Here we are 15 years, 28+ releases later and the DJ-KiCKS series has been graced by the likes of legendary artists such as Carl Craig, Kruder & Dorfmesiter, and the Stereo MC’s. The most recent mix was by Booka Shade which found its way to shelves in October of 2007. For whatever reason, we haven’t seen an update since then.
Looking to get back to their roots, !K7 has enlisted P-Thugg and Dave 1 of Chromeo. Oddly enough, Chromeo’s last release, Fancy Footwork, was also released in 2007. Unlike the DJ-KiCKS series though, they have stayed active by touring the world in support of the album.
Even though we don’t have the full track list yet, some of the producers will include Chateau Marmont, Leo Sayer, The Alan Parsons Project and The Eagles.
Yes, the “Hotel California” Eagles.
While the first DJ-KiCKS release in over two years won’t hit the stores until early October, you can head to chromeo-djkicks.com and register your email address to download Chromeo’s reworking of “I Can’t Tell You Why” by The Eagles. If you’re feeling nostalgic, you can also head to dj-kicks.com and stream any of the previous releases.

I also saw them at Sasquatch and thought they were amazing. I also bought VIP tickets to Monolith and was pleasently surprised to find out that they will be djing on Friday and Live on Sunday.
If you’re an Alan parsons project fan you’ll be happy to hear that Eric Woolfson who wrote like all the songs of app is on facebook now communicating regularly with us (his fans). Its pretty sweet if you’re in to APP music.

Saw them at Sasquatch and it was one of the best dj sets that I have ever heard. Really looking forward to this.
